September 4, 200917 yr So you're telling me you were brain washed into thinking that America was always right? Your teachers weren't being honest with you whenever there might have been some bias in your book if they didn't discuss that viewpoint. Knowing what school you went to, that would shock me. Most of the time, our books seemed pretty factual with little spin if any. I teach US History to 5th graders---in a public school setting. I purposely point out when I am teaching that this is from the perspective of such and such (i.e. an American Colonist) and this is from the perspective of such and such (i.e. a British Loyalist.) I tell them that there are many sides to a story and multiple perspectives that need to be looked at in order to get the whole picture. While I consider myself a patriot and I love our country I do not tell kids we have always been right ---- that would be foolish.
September 4, 200917 yr I am a teacher and was handed this propoganda this morning. I asked for a transcript but told there wasn't one. I will not be showing this without being able to see a transcript or being able to preview it first. In fact, I don't show anything in my classroom without previewing it first. I was told to connect it to core content when showing it to my class. Well, I barely have enough time to cover what needs to be covered now, let alone take time to show this without knowing what is going to be said and trying to figure out how it "fits" into the curriculum. I have made the decision to continue with my plans I have already made and they don't include viewing this broadcast. Parents need to view this with their children if they want them to see it. I am not going to promote something that I have not had the opportunity to review first. Period. I take it you haven't gone to the website to review the PDF's there?
September 4, 200917 yr So do we think youth of America has never heard: Stay in School Work Hard Don't do drugs They'd probably pay more attention to the goat story... I'm sure the goat story is riveting...

September 4, 200917 yr I find it comical that posters on here as well as talk radio are upset that the POTUS is taking away valuable class time yet no one ever calls the school to complain about all of the time students are out for various activities/speeches/MADD/etc. Smells funny to me. As a teacher, I complain about all this stuff all of the time.
September 4, 200917 yr I take it you haven't gone to the website to review the PDF's there? As a matter of fact I did just that. I didn't find a transcript. Just a "summary" on what he planned to do and a list of lesson plans and activities to do to prepare them . . . so you assumed wrong.
September 4, 200917 yr Obviously his mind was made up already... For the record, I am a "her" not a "his" and as I have said before, I don't do anything in my classroom without previewing it first.
September 4, 200917 yr What would your reaction be if President Obama wanted to have this speech to talk about the importance of avoiding drugs? I would still want to preview it.
September 4, 200917 yr As a matter of fact I did just that. I didn't find a transcript. Just a "summary" on what he planned to do and a list of lesson plans and activities to do to prepare them . . . so you assumed wrong. My apologies. I stand corrected.
September 4, 200917 yr I would still want to preview it. Do you submit your lectures verbatim for review to someone?
September 4, 200917 yr With the utmost of due respect, I don't believe you. By even tackling the topic of global warming, you are likely going to use terminology that betrays your point of view. However, were you in my son's classroom, I would be OK with it (as previously posted), because if it got too far for my taste, I could confront you about it. Can't do that with the Prez.
September 4, 200917 yr Absolutely. Print it on some bumper stickers and send it on to us. We'll put it in their backpacks after the school day is over.
September 4, 200917 yr Again, you are making the decision for ALL school children. The logical way for this address to be made is in school. The parents could still make the choice by signing a permission slip. I'd be really angry if I were a parent, and I found out that YOU made the decision to not allow MY children to see the Presidental address without my input. You can protect YOUR children. Do not presume to tell ME that YOU must protect MY children, though. I haven't ignored anything. But, you and others have ignored not only bugatti's posts, but the posts of others that does tell what the address is to be about. You PRESUME to ASSUME that the address will be about something different. Another reason to broadcast it afterschool hours so the PARENTS can make the choice.
September 4, 200917 yr Another reason to broadcast it afterschool hours so the PARENTS can make the choice. Or YOU could send me a permission slip and let ME decide to let my children see it at the time it's presented.
September 4, 200917 yr I continue to be absolutely astonished that so many are dead-set against having the President of the United States address our school children. Cooties are not transmitted electronically.
