I used to be a Sportscenter fanatic back when it was good in the Olberman/Patrick days. It has gone downhill so bad since. I noticed the other day I don't watch ESPN anywhere close to what I used too.

 

Agreed. Add Steiner to the list as well.

 

I watch it less than half as much as I used to however I do enjoy a couple of the current talking heads. Neil Everett and SVP are right up there with the old-time stars.

Personally, they have been in Brett's back pocket for the past few years and yet get scooped by FOX's Jay Glazer on EVERY major Favre story. They have to stay ahead of Glazer somehow.

The Scribe has hit it on the mark. ESPN relies solely on Mort, who clearly is misinformed, whereas Glazer seems to break the real news when it comes :thumb:

It's amazing. Glazer is the man when it comes to "the scoop".

I think a lot of people can find a way to complain about a lot of things. Lets face it, its hard to have a full hour, sometimes hour and a half of nothing but sports coverage on a show. There's certainly not that many sports highlight/news/story shows out there, and even fewer that run the duration that Sportscenter does. Simply put, it takes a lot of work and a lot of time/stories to cover an hour and a half on tv especially when all you have to work with is games played that day, or sports stories that have arose that day/week. It is even harder when you have a nationwide audience to please. Personally, I can see why people would talk trash on sportscenter, but in all honesty when it comes to a sports show none out there are better at what it does than sportscenter and ESPN.

ESPN has to get viewers somehow and keep them so they always stir the pot a little...

 

Then put more sports on. Show me game seven from some old NBA playoff series. I'd rather have that then have Sal Palentonio, or Rachel Nichols camped out at some teams practice facilities.

The problem with SC is the fact that it hs evolved in the last 10-20 years. I remember when SC was a sports news and highlights show. Now, they have cut back on the highlights and save them for their sport-specific shows such as Baseball Tonight, NFL Today, etc. They also have more talking heads debate things during the show. All of that takes away from the highlights. Personally, I miss the old screen panels that gave you the game information such as winning and losing pitcher and hits leader.

 

And of course, it doesnt hurt when ESPN is the monopoly when it comes to sports highlight shows.

They cover Michael Vick for 2 months straight and then the night that everyone knows he is going to play, the game is nowhere to be found. You would think ESPN could have televised that game, at least the first half, after all of the hype they put towards it. But instead showed debates on Tim Tebow, Bradford, and Colt McCoy and who is the better of the three. . A very original topic.

For all the abuse ESPN takes, ask a few of the old timers about what watching sports was like prior to ESPN.

Thats odd because I never said one single time that I "hate" watching ESPN.

 

I just said that I am getting sick of the same tired old stories over and over everyday.

Unless there is a game on, that I want to watch, the only ESPN I watch is ESPN NEWS. Everything is covered in a half hour and repeats. They are like the old Sports Center, which used to be only 30 minutes.

 

I don't like ESPN's tickers on any of the channels. They have always given way too much information. All I want is the score. Thankfully that's why God invented cell phones with internet access. :thumb:
