I heard about a new arena back when I worked in the athletic department in the Fall/Winter 2008, but I know no details.

Would it really be a surprise? Louisville builds one that will be state of the art, how long before UK just has to play catch up?

Wouldn't surprise me at all Rupp is outdated and luxury boxes would be a cash cow for UK.

I know IMG proposed a new basketball facility (across from Rupp), more renovations to Commonwealth Stadium and a new and improved baseball facility using private monies. There was a feasability study going on and was to be finished last summer sometime. Does anyone know what became of that proposal?

I don't think building a new arena has much, if anything, to do with Louisville.

It has much more to do with the fact that Rupp Arena is outdated, uncomfortable & just flat out old.

If they do, I just hope our season tickets would be as good as they are now.

I think they wanna catch up with Tenn as well. It would be different not seeing a game at Rupp though.

What some may not realize is that Kentucky has been in Rupp Arena much longer than the previous arenas; I'm not counting the one before 1924 for this. A new arena being built would be beneficial and not beyond the realm of necessity when it comes to past construction history.

Rupp Arena: 1976 - present (33 seasons)

Memorial Coliseum: 1950 - 1976 (26 seasons)

Alumni Gymnasium: 1924 - 1950 (26 seasons)

They could use a new arena for sure. Rupp is just so blah to me really.

It's OK if little brother wants to hang its hat on that but like it or not Rupp is old and needs to be replaced.:thumb:

It is old and needs to be replaced, but if you think Louisville getting a new arena hasn't been mentioned in the same breath as UK building one, you're lying to yourself. :thumb:

UK can/will top it...
