I thought Desales beating Western by a 9 points was a big suprise also. Western is supposed to be loaded the year. The coach said they had like 10 offensive and 10 defensive starters returning. Thats a team that beat Central last year.

I'm on the Western staff and I was not surprised. DeSales has 24 seniors on a team that barely dresses 50 players. They have been one win from the 2-A title game two times in the past four years. If anything I was surprised how bad our kids played. They got the best of us up front on both sides of the ball and our QB showed the game rust of not playing in essentially two seasons. I'm thinking DeSales will make another deep run in 2-A. The 10 starters on both sides of the ball was before several seniors (3 were 2-way starters) recently made choices to not be part of our team this year.

 

As far as biggest surprise, I'd have to go with Holy Cross winning so easily.

I vote Boyle pounding JC.

Johnson Central gets pounded and now the coach is wanting to buy out of the contract for next year.

 

Boyle ran a fake punt up some 28 or 35 against Highlands in the 2003 finals. Mueller didn't run with his tail between his legs the next year. All he did was make his team better in 2004 and shut out Boyle at Highlands and then beat them in the Finals. I guess Matney isn't the coach I thought he was.....

JC fans have maligned the Bobcat faithful for two years using scrimmages as their basis for comparison to Bell County. Dudley approaches scrimmages differently than JC and their fans. Looks like they have to play Bell and their opponents on the field this season. I wonder if they will have to buy out of a second contract if they lose to Bell this year?

I was surprised most at: (1) The margin of the Bowling Green/Christian County game; (2) JC losing and (3) Mason Co. over Danville.

I am a fan of JC as I/we were treated so very well by the JC faithful in 2006 and 2008, however in 2006 Coach Matney cried big time after CovCath beat him too. Me, I make it out as he just hates losing and doesn't think about what he is saying after the game.

For me:

 

- Boyle Co destroying Johnson Central

- Mason thumping Danville

- Prestonsburg defeating Belfry (although I thought this was close to an even matchup)

- Rowan County dismantling Morgan County by such a big margin is a surprise for me, too

Localy, I am going with NL and Somerset.
