Are we in the P&R forum?

They were initially informed that it was under investigation in October of '07....this is from UK's beat writer Brent Dawson.

I do not know who Brent Dawson is...but what makes him more reliable than the guys from the sporting news?

Brett Dawson is the UK beat writer for the Courier-Journal. If anybody's going to be well-informed about UK, it's him.

But the same wasn't true for Duke in '99 was it?

(Not picking a fight because I know you have been a Duke fan but trying to see how what you just described isn't the same or very similar scenario?)

Duke should have to vacate that Final Four as well.

I want to know what he did also?

Yep. :thumb:

Cal is at fault only in what people he allows himself or his programs to associate with. However, doesn't it seem that thanks in somewhat to the NCAA/NBA forcing high school kids to go to college that they have self inflicted much of this situation. A kid who has no business being at college suddenly is forced into the situation nowdays of being at a place that for one season must act as caretaker, guardian, and showcase to his skills. I'll never be a fan of the forced one year rule. Maybe Brandon Jennings actually had it right, why be forced into pimping out your talent to colleges for next to nothing when you can actually choose your own path, make money in Europe, learn the game at a competitive level and still be eligible to compete in the NBA the next year.

I think anyone who thinks Calipari didn't know about Rose's situation is being naive, defensive and stubborn. If he wasn't coaching UK right now, what would you think about the Calipari and Rose situation? All of these coaches know every little detail about the players. I have a hard time believing Calipari didn't know Rose's academic situation. He was probably sweating bullets praying for Rose to qualify academically. These coaches know what these boys are capable of academically and if they don't know then situations like this and Calipari's Final Fours being vacated are what they get for not knowing enough about the kind of kid they are recruiting for their school.

Do you also agree that Duke should vacate theirs too?

And how do they know other than grades and test scores?

Nobody should recruit a kid who doesn't qualify on his first SAT try?

Yes, I do. Coach K has also done the right thing by not going after those kinds of recruits anymore as well. Coach K going after John Wall blew everyone away because he has stayed away from aggressively recruiting those with "handlers".

No, what I am saying is that these coaches know what kind of academic standing these recruits are in. They also know if these recruits can handle the academic regimen of the institute they may be attending. But, if a kid doesn't qualify on his 1st, 2nd, or 3rd try, then I would like to think that the coach would have an idea if the kids is even capable of passing the test at all. I would like to think a coach would know enough about the kid to know if he could pass the test at all. What's the point of recruiting a kid who is going to be academically ineligible in the spring semester because college work is too hard for him? Maybe I am asking too much of a coach, but last I saw they were recruiting student-athletes. It's when you start recruiting athletes without the student is when you run into problems. Both of Calipari's problem stem from guys who had no interest in a college education whatsoever. Camby and Rose. Calipari had to of known what he was getting into with Rose and like I said, if he didn't, then he deserved to have the Final Four vacated for not keeping a closer eye to what was going on in and around the players in his program. I just hope for UK fans' sake that he has finally learned his lesson.
