formerkywrestler Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I had this debate with friends this morning, which do you like better. For me it's the NFL, which surprised my friends because I don't have "a team" at all in the NFL. But I believe it is a superior product, while college football is fatally flawed. Therefore I have gotten to the point where I really only watch UK games in college, while I watch 98% of NFL games. My friend made the arguments that college football had more heart, there were more teams (thus more games), he liked UK better than any NFL team, NFL players are prima donna's, the BCS creates a debate in itself, players care more in college, etc.
cch5432 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 NFL, but it may be a product of my upbringing more than anything. My family is from the northeast, where Pro Sports are significantly favored over College Sports, in general. I prefer NBA and NFL to their college counterparts.
bugatti Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I have debated this in my head for the past couple of years and I cannot come up with a answer. I love the pageantry, spirit, and rivalries in the college game. The NFL is a such a great TV product and the games are typically competitive.
TrueBlueWildcat Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I love both..I know it doesn't really answer the question but each has it's greatness. For me, the NFL is great to watch and it doesn't matter who is playing. Most names are known and it's very exciting and has great TV coverage. College has more heart and the players play because they love the game. The BCS is killing the game though. I generally just watch SEC games, unless it's a big time game.
jvdfc Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I can't pick. It is dead even for me. I'll try to watch them all. :ylsuper:
formerkywrestler Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 The three of you who answered college in the poll...can we have a reason why?
Getslow Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I selected the NFL. I'll give a little of my thought process. College football had an early lead because I've been watching it longer and have been watching UofL home games live in the stadium since the days when there were just a few thousand people dotted in several sections across Old Cardinal Stadium. But on the whole, I can't sit down and watch college football no matter who is playing; I need a vested interest (teams I always watch: UofL, UK, Notre Dame, Minnesota). With the NFL, I feel like the product is so great that I can sit down and watch almost any two teams play for three hours (fantasy sports have done a lot to contribute to hours spent watching pro sports). The BCS is a fundamentally flawed system and far and away the worst way to determine a champion of any sport. I didn't watch a single BCS bowl last year. Come to think of it, I watched very few bowls at all because they are just not compelling. The NFL playoffs, in my opinion, are not anywhere near the best postseason (NCAA basketball and the Stanley Cup playoffs are the two that immediately come to mind) but they are WAY better than watching a series of bowl games. When it comes right down to it, I enjoy both and plan to watch plenty. So... Go Cards and Skol Vikings.
Original Rookie Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 College because it is easier to bet  I could go either way on this one.
futurecoach Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 If college football had a playoff system, then I think college football would eventually become more popular than the NFL. As of right now though the playoffs in the NFL is what makes me give the NFL the edge.

FormerCawoodTrojan Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I voted College, but like a lot of you I love both of them. There is no denying the talent level and as someone stated "superior product" lies in the NFL. I think the NFL has the greatest overall athletes in the world, but I just love the rah rah portion of college football for lack of a better term. As far as the general population...NFL in a landslide. Most popular sport in the US and it is probably at its highest popularity right now. It's kinda like asking Jessica Alba or Jessica Biel...win - win.
5wide Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 NFL for me. I used to like college better, but I've shifted to the NFL over the last 3-4 years.
FormerCawoodTrojan Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 NFL for me. I used to like college better, but I've shifted to the NFL over the last 3-4 years. I've kind of went the opposite. As a Cowboys fan since I was a kid, its been hard to watch a team you dislike, a coach you dislike, and a bunch of players you dislike. I miss Danny White and Tony Dorsett.

So I have a specific team I root for in the league but I still like college better. I think its the wide variety of schemes and styles that you don't tend to find in the NFL but I can't quite put my finger on it.
