ScarHeel Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/12057479 The fans have spoken. Well, fans of the University of Kentucky at least. Our community members made it no secret where their allegiance lied, making Rupp Arena the top-ranked arena of the nine weekly winners of our Arena War summer series. (Just imagine if Kentucky basketball fans could put that energy into something constructive, like tracking down Osama Bin Laden.) Kentucky fans "just care about this kind of stuff more than the rest of you," Parrish wrote.
ScarHeel Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 Here's a few comments about UK being #1... bsktblfan22 -- Rupp hahahhahahah No. 1 hahahah. No one is scared of Rupp Arena. Give me any non-UK fan and they say the same thing ... Cameron Indoor destroys Rupp. For real, come on Gardner Webb went into Rupp and won a game. Would that happen at these other places? Of course not. Chiefs & J-Hawk -- My only problem with the Kentucky fans always bringing up the 24,000 people as a reason why they are better, is that don't think for a second that if a place like AFH or Cameron could hold 24,000 that they would not be packed every game. Raw numbers do not make it a better arena. phadrous -- KY state law requires all UK fans to break an additional hour (at the expense of the employer) per 8 hr shift worked, solely for the purpose of crushing sports polls and talking smack to fans of other universities who even dare to question our passion. Bathroom breaks, smoking, etc. are not permitted during this break. Only UK basketball, and the lunacy to which we are willing to engage on any given day is permitted.
DragonFire Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 It kinda cracks me up how Parrish and a couple of the other writers seem to decry the result that they got. The whole intention of the arena wars was to get the fans to vote on which they thought was best, and many of the Kentucky voting masses are not the slightest bit objective and of course vote for Rupp. If Parrish and the like didn't want Rupp to be at the top, they should have simply made their own list and printed the column. Which is what Parrish eventually did, but not before crying about how UK fans jacked the process. FWIW, I think the Arena Wars thing asked the question "Which arena gives the best home court advantage?" If that's all we're looking for here, the answer is of course Cameron Indoor Stadium. It's not really even a question. But of course, the thing about homecourt advantage, is that most of the advantage is based on how good the team is. Rupp has often been quite formidable to go into, but it's more about the team than the 24,000 fans. Hence a team like Gardner-Webb could come in and win. The time UK beat #1 Florida is one of the only times I ever thought Rupp provided anything extra.

I'd throw Villanvoa during Tim Thomas' frosh season...can't remember the exact year, but I was at that game and it was the loudest i've ever heard Rupp (until Tay Prince went stupid on UNC).
GrizzlyAdams Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 If I was him I would just throw that entire article off the website . Those comments about UK are just hilarious though.
Plato Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 If Rupp held 100,000 it would sell out for about every game.
mobaar Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 and MOST of the voting masses are not the slightest bit objective Fixed it for you. The only thing that makes UK any different is that there are more fans in general, and they seem to care more about these polls.
hoopboy Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I don't know who's more obsessed, the few "crazy" UK fans out there, or the other morons who are more obsessed about the crazy UK fans (as if UK is the only school/organization to have said fans), than they are their own respective teams.

Some of the posters slamming UK's 18% crazies, need to look in the mirror to see their teams 18%.
RowdyRedRam Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Freedom Hall is better than Rupp, and we are replacing it.
Sharp Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Freedom Hall is better than Rupp, and we are replacing it. You may be right, but it is only better when UK is playing there. :D
DragonFire Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Freedom Hall is better than Rupp, and we are replacing it. I wish I'd had an opportunity to go to Freedom Hall, so I can't say anything to that statement. But other than Louisville fans, I don't know anyone that shares your opinion.
Milfordflash Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Freedom Hall is better than Rupp, and we are replacing it. Why are they replacing it then?:idunno:
