August 14, 200917 yr Thoroughly enjoyed it. However, it does re-enforce many's belief that the non-coach management is really poor. What was the deal with the coaches sitting in little desks? Remember the Cowboys and other teams sitting around one big table? Just adds to the mom-and-pop image of the Bengals. How sad was it listening to someone in management whining like a fan that "we've offered him a lot of money but he just won't sign."
August 14, 200917 yr Williams performed under the coach he is with now. They really blew it in Dallas with him I thought. They put him back in coverage and he couldn't cover me. He is a body rocking OLB/SS type that is one of the best blitzers there are from that position. If Cincy is going to ask him to cover then they might as well cut him. If they are going to bring him then I'm OK with it. To me Safety is one of the strongest parts of this team. They are about 4 deep or so there. Crocker showed just how easy it is to break CJ's mental weekness down in one show. I worry a lot about Cincy not signing their draft pick. They are thin at TE + FB. No TE..FB..LT makes it pretty tough to be effective on offense. I loved the Koffman steal but he is wet behind the ears and is a pass catcher not a big run blocker.
August 14, 200917 yr stick, I think they are OK at FB but I really worry about TE. I would be looking hard at any quality TE getting cut from another team.
August 14, 200917 yr I enjoyed the show and watched it twice. I thought Coles made a funny when talking about his catch count in college vs. Coffman. I also like all the Chase, Chase, Chase... and I don't know what kind of push ups he was doing but we are not in Missouri any more. I thought the Chad/Child Please stuff was a hoot. I agree it looked like there was little respect for Brown when he was talking about moving a player. Say what you want about Marvin but he looks like the glue holding a large part of the organization together. Lippincott is a looker and I thought when he went to cut the FB that was pretty poor. I wonder if that is how most teams do it. Rough business. Again, I really enjoyed the show and hope for the best this year. Typically "The Turk" does their work during the middle of the day actually giving a player a chance to speak with the head coach, GM, or owner. Little shady coming knocking at 5:30 in the morning.

Little shady coming knocking at 5:30 in the morning. IMO there's no good way to do it. I think the Bengals go this route to avoid the embarrassment for the player. I found this quote that I'm guessing sums up the Bengals thinking: ''The guys don't want to go in there and be embarrassed in front of their peers,'' Rick Donohue, the Giants' assistant general manager, who was also the team's Turk for several years, said last week. ''You understand. It's a hard day.'' http://www.nytimes.com/2001/08/27/sports/on-pro-football-in-era-of-kinder-cuts-the-turk-s-time-is-up.html
August 14, 200917 yr stick, I think they are OK at FB but I really worry about TE. I would be looking hard at any quality TE getting cut from another team. I thought Utecht was the solution at TE. Didn't they also draft one?
August 14, 200917 yr I thought Utecht was the solution at TE. Didn't they also draft one? They have 2 pass-catching TEs in Ute and Coffman(the 4th round pick). They need a strong blocking TE to replace Kelly.
August 14, 200917 yr I thought Utecht was the solution at TE. Didn't they also draft one? What was the extent of Utecht's injury? I know it was serious having him carted off, but it appeared to be more of a precautionary type thing.
August 14, 200917 yr It will be interesting to see if they bring Runnels back to the practice squad. The article I quoted above mentioned that teams will cut guys early that have no chance at making the 53 man roster but have potential. They cut them early so no one can see them perform in games and hoping that they can bring them back.
August 14, 200917 yr Most teams call the players they're cutting to the Director of Personnel's office.
August 14, 200917 yr They should give Lippincott a look at FB I just read on another site that there is a fad sweeping Cincy called rocking the Lippincott...here is a pic :
August 14, 200917 yr What was the extent of Utecht's injury? I know it was serious having him carted off, but it appeared to be more of a precautionary type thing. Looks like it could be a season ending thing. It is still up in the air as far as I know.
