Who gets the NDA job?

Featured Replies

This position will be highly sought after. The facilities, school support, academics you can just go on and on about this fantastic postion. I say we should wait and see who all applies. I think there will be coaches close to the program as well as many coaches from outside applying.

My guess is they already have a good idea who the next coach will be.

I agree.

I just heard from the ever so mentioned "Reliable Source" that coach will be hired by the end of next week. I did not get a name.

I don't see many head coaches leaving since they have started school. What are the penalties for terminating your contract.

Nothing as far as a coaching contract. If you leave in the middle of a teaching contract then the standards board can revoke your license.

I'm not underestimating it, I know how often it goes on, especially here. I just don't think it should happen. (unless we're talking rec league).

In the programs I've been a part of, and I've lived in 9 different states, 5 of which I played sports in, and even played basketball outside of the country for a summer. In all but one of the situations I was a part of, family was not allowed to coach family. And it worked, and the programs were successful long term and are widely known because of it. Did I played a sport that was coached by my dad or mom when I was a young kid? Yes. But when it came to high school, AAU and upper level play, it was never done.

That is one of the bigger reasons I don't think he is right for the job.

Where else do coaches have family on the team? Faust @ St. Henry had a son on the team.

I would be hesitant to hire Dick if he does have granddaughters coming up through the system; however, I think he's a good enough coach to put those things aside.

St. Henry likes to hire like that. Their girl's bball coach has a daughter in the program as well.

I spoke to CovCath Coach Murphy prior to the CovCath vs. Ryle (JV) football game Saturday morning and he told me if offered, he would cross the CovCath Hwy to be the Head Coach at NDA! Now in saying that, he is very happy to be at CovCath and help coach his son, who BTW is loving life at CovCath!

Each of the three coaches at Ryle have daughters on the team.

Six parents. Three players. One ball. Oh, Boy.:ohbrother:

I think it's extremely unfair to call out parents coaching their kids...where are the 200+ qualified candidates who have no blood relation to a particular program interested in coaching girls basketball across this state? Unfortunatly, there will always be parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles etc on the sidelines because they are the only ones qualified and willing to put in the time necessary to coach these girls.

I dont know Dick personally, but have coached against him and respect him as a coach. I think he knows the game very well and would do a great job at Notre Dame.

Let's face it, the small amount of money these coaches get paid doesn't drive them. It must be for the passion for the game. Whomever gets the nod to coach at NDA will have his/her hands full, five seniors left but many superb athletes remain ready to get it done.

I look forward to Ms. Gunnings decision, from what I have heard she is approaching the selection process with a great deal of forethought and using some highly respected basketball people to assist in getting the right person on staff.

Who would these "highly respected basketball people" be? :idunno:

All of the teaching contract problems make Mr. Stamm seem like an even more viable option. Give Aaron the call NDA! Look at the equation. Your talent pool+his dedication=state rings!

I agreed with you #5.Give Coach Stamm a chance .He would be a perfect for NDA.
