Who gets the NDA job?

Featured Replies

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

Northern Kentucky has never produced a coach that has been able to compete at the state level.

Given that fact, why would Notre Dame even consider someone that used to coach at Brossart, Silver Grove, Ludlow, NCC, or anywhere else that has been mentioned here?

I would go with fresh talent.

IF he wants the job, Marty Petroze would be my man.

He understands the game better than anyone else in the area.

And, he knows how to get the very best out of a player.

I guarantee Marty Petroze would aim to be competitive on a state level, not just a Region 9 level.

I like Marty a lot, but hasn't he been in NKY his whole coaching career? If he's so good and knows so much more than anyone why wasn't he telling the head coaches at ND and St. Henry what to do? If he was helping them to win wouldn't he have at least had an influence on their results? If he wasn't helping them to win b/c he wanted to keep his basketball secrets he should have stepped down years ago.

I believe it will be Maile.

McDonald can blame parental interferrence, but her "sunny disposition" probably created as many issues as any other outside influence.

You are wrong. She was NOT asked to resign. She did so voluntary because of parental interference, and has passed on several inquiries to assume other head coaching jobs. She would probably not be interested in the NDA job, but maybe her record of 2 regional titles and 2 regional runner-up finishes in her last 8 years from a school with less than half the female students as NDA looks pretty good.

RESIGN or be fired, was the choice. That is how it was!!!

I have never heard McDonald blame anyone. Her record speaks for itself and only time can tell if the program will stay where she took it. Four regional finals for a single A school under her leadership is awfully strong. NCC (nor any other single A school in the 9th region) can claim that type of success under any other coaches.

As for the parental influence, there were some parents that drastically over-estimated their child's college potential and strong-armed administration.

Exactly!!

It doesn't matter now anyway, she got a raw deal there by parents who had to much influence over the administration at NCC. She, I can't imagine, would be (or want to be) a candidate for the NDA job when her kids are looking at free tuition at NCC (I believe it's free if your parent teaches at the school, I can't say for sure, but it is atleast a reduced rate. I'm sure someone can confirm.).

Of course, I would love to see their very athletic children go to Highlands so they could help put the beat down on NCC in retaliation for the way she got 'run out' as the basketball coach at NCC after all the good she did for the basketball program and continues to do for the school and the students.....

Let me make sure I understand. The lady coaches for over 10 years and turns an "A" program into a contender year and year out (winning regionals) and all of a sudden its because of her "sunny disposition"?

Sounds like you thought your daughter deserved more playing time?

Coach McDonald just ran into a bad class of parents with loud mouths.

I'm not following your line of reasoning.

What makes you think he didn't make suggestions that influenced the results at ND & St. Henry?

The reality is this:

If I had the opportunity to hire Marty as a head coach.... I would.

My main point is this:

Why would you only consider hiring a coach who has already been a head coach in Northern KY?

Swapping one head coach for another every few years (in a region that has never been competitive on a state level) is like rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.

It's not going to change the outcome of this story....

Maile is not the answer - knows the game but does not know the kids. There are reasons why he does not coach at CCH, NDA, or Holy Cross anymore.

I disagree with your first point. He knows the kids and the catholic feeder system better than anyone. Also, he would probably coach for less "peanuts" than Coach Darpel did. I think that is a big factor with schools trying to save every penny to keep tuition down. I do howeveer, agree with your second statement, Maile is not an assistant coach. He has his way of wanting to do things and is not affraid to voice them even if it is not the same as the head coach. So this is his perfect opportunity to be the guy. NDA should give it to him and with the current siuation how could you blame them. If it doesn't work out down the road then he had his chance.

EXACTLY. Of course NCC fans have long been "experts" on coaching. If they had had their way Coach Schneider would have been "run off" years ago. Luckily for the football program a different administration wasn't strong-armed by parents who though they had All-State kids, when they didn't.

I have to agree. I am a Birds fan and I respected her as a player and coach over the years. We would welcome the McDonald clan from the Hill. She definitely would be a fantastic hire for any program.

Dick was the head coach at NDA back in the late 80s and has jumped around NDA, CCH, Holy Cross, and now Pius with his granddaughters over the last 20 years. Don't get me wrong, there is no doubt he knows basketball and has the experience, but the kids don't respond to him and its his way or the highway which is not so bad when your head coach. NDA is in a flux right now with their coaches and having so much turnover at the head coach level with no continuity hurts the programs as a whole. My bet is on hiring Marty to keep some continuity, Keri Shields to get some new energy in the program, or bring Kes Murphy in since to knows the feeder schools and has been around NDA the last few years.

Could not be more wrong on "not responding" issue. Heck, we've got at least one former player of his on this site who will stand up for him. Every girl I've known that has played for Dick loves him to this day.

Fair enough, "every girl" I know would not, so we'll just agree to disagree based on personal experiences.:deadhorse: For his knowledge :notworthy: I guess we'll just have to sit back and see what NDA decides to do.
