Who gets the NDA job?

Featured Replies

Let me make sure I understand. The lady coaches for over 10 years and turns an "A" program into a contender year and year out (winning regionals) and all of a sudden its because of her "sunny disposition"?

Sounds like you thought your daughter deserved more playing time?

Coach McDonald just ran into a bad class of parents with loud mouths.

A good majority of the parents at CCH/NDA are people who get way too involved and are too mouthy and really know nothing of what they talk about. I don't know much about the NDA situation, but I know CCH is parent driven like no other. There is a reason coaches have cited the politics and parental interference in things they didn't like..

I think Stamm would be a good choice.

And on top of that, Dick Maile is a fine man. But I think it'd be a mistake to hire him..for a multitude of reasons that of which I don't care to really pinpoint, but have somewhat been mentioned.

I guess we'll just have to sit back and see what NDA decides to do.

Any timetable set up for an announcement? We are mid August, I would think they would need someone in place by mid September.

Does anyone know if the AD has set up any interviews?

My money is still on Kes Murphy....:dancingpa

Odds posted anywhere?

I'll give Kes 2/1 odds.

That is an understatement!

So you're going to say that it'd be a mistake to hire him & not support your opinion with anything?

Don't get me wrong, there is no doubt he knows basketball and has the experience, but the kids don't respond to him and its his way or the highway which is not so bad when your head coach.

Which kids don't respond to Dick Maile?

The man is knowledgeable & relates well to most players. Granted, he's older than your prototypical coach, but I don't think Dick has a problem relating to the kids. If they're willing to work hard and, most importantly, LISTEN, then they'll learn a lot.

The problem is when some of the players (or their parents) think too highly of themselves & feel that they deserve something better than high school basketball. If that's the case, I agree that Dick's style doesn't work well. But then again, do you want a coach whose style would mesh with that type of attitude?

I am sure Kim Gunning will make an excellent choice for the head coaching position at NDA. Of the 3 names that keep coming up (those who have been associated with NDA basketball in the past), all three are quality coaches as well as quality individuals, I know this from personal experience (my daughter has played for all three). I seriously doubt that Kim will go outside of the NDA family for a new coach when she has these 3 fine men to choose from (if they are interested in the position).

As for the notion that NDA basketball is going to be down for the next few years, I beg to differ. Schilling, Ammerman, and Hill, who are all coming back after injuries will bring a strong core back for this season. Add to that Voskul (freshman) and the other 3 returning seniors and they will be fine.

Time is ticking, when will they make an announcement? I still think Maile is a perfect choice. It is my understanding that Murphy is coaching at CCH and has a son that is there playing? Why would he give that opportunity up?

Yes, because I really don't need to nitpick at the reasons I don't feel he is a good choice for the position, because he's a good man and I like the family. I think it'd be a mistake to hire him...but I'm not doing the hiring so it doesn't matter. I remember you saying you played ball for CCH a few years back, and I'd imagine you played under him or at least knew him, so I respect that it is touchy for you...and even more reason there is no need for me to get into it lol.

After the greatest high school basketball coach at CovCath (Mote Hils) left to coach at upstat Northern Kentucky University, Dick Maile coached at CovCath. If I not mistaken he was at CovCath just a couple of years.

Trust me Oscar, CC never played for Coach Maile at CovCath!

You know, it quite all right to have an opinion, but when you are called out as to why you have that opinion and then just LOL yourself out of it, well your opinion starts to mean very little to others.

I played for Dick and I'd like to hear your reasons as to why he wouldn't be a good choice. I can handle it. It is a bit questionable that you have reasons but won't share them...

Let me restate my point about CC never playing for Coach Maile! CC never played for Coach Maile when Coach Maile was the Head Coach at CovCath!

My opinions are based on personal experiences and first hand observations. Nothing personal, and nothing bad, JMO but I don't see as a good fit for the NDA position.
