KyTiger89 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 This trade somewhat confuses me. Rolen is a very tough player though, could add some nice hitting to a slumping offense.
born2reign Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 They will try to sign him long term, I'm sure. He is a definite upgrade from both an offensive and a defensive perspective.
KyTiger89 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Looks like he was traded for Edwin and a minor leaguer
cch5432 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 A few weeks ago I would have been all for us. I still like it, but not as much as I did because I think that Edwin has made some strides. We will tell if this deal worked well or not at a date in the future.....
NYyankees13 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 He is 35 years old I dont see him staying for to long, but with this in the picture where does Encranacion go? IMO he should be traded for some pitching with a few other players. The pitching needs to be starting pitching too!
westsider Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Encarnacion is in the deal? When I heard Rolen was a Red, I just assumed Encarnacion was spending the last two months in the outfield.
nees1212 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Looks like he was traded for Edwin and a minor leaguer Last year's #1 pick, Alonso. At least that's what I'm hearing.
duck1220 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 YES!! E-5 is gone!!!:dancingpa I don't know if I'd have traded Alonzo straight up for Rolen . But, when they take E-5, that evens things out. Are you sure it's Alonzo? 3:14pm: Rolen approved the deal, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (on Twitter). ESPN's Keith Law says Yonder Alonso is not in the deal. Instead, it'll be Encarnacion, Josh Roenicke, and Zach Stewart heading to Toronto according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
westsider Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 They will try to sign him long term, I'm sure. He is a definite upgrade from both an offensive and a defensive perspective.Rolen is under contract through next season. Why would you sign a 34-year-old player with an extensive injury history to a long-term deal?
The Scribe Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 John Fay says the Reds are sending Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart to the Jays
oldrambler Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I am glad to see E5 gone  I am also glad to see the Reds get a player like Rolen, imo he can be nothing but an improvement over what we had.
NEERFAN Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I about lost it when Yonder was mentioned. That would have been considered rape to deal those two for Rolen.
