July 31, 200917 yr I feel good about this trade. I could wait any longer for EE. This paves the way for Rolen in '10 and Francisco in '11! I like it!

July 31, 200917 yr Edwin has been playing hitting well since his return from the DL. Over the past month, he's hit .276 with 4 HR. Rolen is an upgrade, but I think this trade is pretty even.
July 31, 200917 yr I've heard Zach Stewart, who was included in the deal, is going to be monster closer. Is this true?
July 31, 200917 yr I've heard Zach Stewart, who was included in the deal, is going to be monster closer. Is this true? Zach Stewart has an ERA of 0.73 in just over 12 innings in AAA.
July 31, 200917 yr I really don't like this deal from the Reds perspective. I like Rolen a lot as a player but at this point in his career he's not enough of a presence to be the big bat the Reds needed. Now that Encarnacion is healthy its a marginal offensive upgrade--couple that to the fact that they gave up other prospects and I don't think they've improved their roster.

I think they did it as much for Rolen's veteran presence & leadership than anything. It was brutal watching Edwin boot balls at third. I hate giving up young arms, but you've got to give something up to get something in return. I would've welcomed the opportunity to put Edwin in the OF, though.
July 31, 200917 yr Rolen has been known to be an A$$ in the clubhouse. Maybe he can come in and straighten out some of the Reds young guys. MAybe just what the Reds need because they are getting very little leadership from their coaching staff.
July 31, 200917 yr Jays paying all of Rolen's 2009 salary Which is about $4M if I read correctly. I think this was a bad move for the Reds. There's no guarantee the pitchers the Reds dealt will be good, but Rolen isn't enough better than EE especially w/ the money difference to get rid of prospects too. I think the Reds gave up too much in this deal. I guess since the Jays are paying all of Rolen's deal, it was just a salary dump to get rid of Encarnacion.

He is a gold glove 3rd baseman batting 329. He makes more money than EE but Toronto is paying his salary for 09. Watching EE, Rosales and Hairston was painful. We get a middle of the order guy who may provide some much needed leadership. If it is a bust he will be gone after next year. WHats one more year with the Reds. I am just glad they are doing something trade wise.
