I'm willing to bet the Reds will take back about anything if it means getting Arroyo's contract off the books.

John Fay said Bob C. was on a big conference call and that likely means they were talking money, meaning the Reds paying some of his contract.

Dunn hit is 26th tonite. Fortunately, we're better off with our small ball team.

 

Votto is the next to go. He obviously is a loser since the Reds are doing even worse than they did with Dunn.

While a third of a run per game might not sound like much it would mean that the Reds were scoring 4.35 runs per game and giving up 4.40 runs per game. A run differential like that would have put them most likely right at or a little bit over .500 and could have put them in position to make a deal for another bat to try and stay in the race. That would make there run differential similar to the Marllins who are still in the race. As it stands now there offense has too many holes in it and a trade for one bat would have little effect.

To put your stats in proper perspective, do 08 with Dunn on the team and 08 without Dunn on the team.

My point that you seem to overlook is that you blasted the only producer the Reds had and said he was the cause of their pathetic record. He's gone. The Reds still stink. So it obviously wasn't Dunn. Don't tell me about money because your issue had nothing to do with money. You thought he was a bum and didn't contribute. This team has shown that they need a bopper and a guy that can get on base at a .400+ clip. He and Votto sure would look good together.

Dunn is only 29. He along with Votto and Phillips would be a very strong 3-4-5 combo for today and the next few years.

You're right in the fact I never liked the guy. Stems from some dealings with him early in his career with the Reds. I believe I mentioned his salary last season especially after he posted such low numbers in April and June. My point to that was that the Reds couldn't afford to have their highest paid player tank so dramatically, because they couldn't put players around him to pick up his slack. I also said the same about Jr. Those two salaries killed this team. Yes the Reds are still in the sub central, could they be a couple of games better with him? Maybe. We'll never know. And again, why not just move on. They were bad with him, they're bad without him, how about talking about what is real, the organization as it stands now. I remember the angst I felt when the team let Todd Walker go, and now you have Phillips. How about Cantu? Anyone miss him? Why not? Dude has benn pretty solid. In the end it does come down to money with the Reds, and it is Banana Bob's and Jockety's task to work within that framework, and put a competitive team on the field. Not a bad deal for the Reds, given the state of their outfield ... Balentien's been a disappointment, but he was once highly-regarded and he's still just 25.

Yippee. The Reds trade a promising young pitcher for a guy who was just designated for assignment and has a lifetime BA of .209 and OBP of .260. A pennant is on the horizon now . . . .

Cincinnati has plenty of quality arms for the bullpen. Most of which are more highly regarded than Manuel. It's a low risk, high reward type situation. This guy was once thought of a a pretty solid prospect. His minor league numbers are similar to those of Nelson Cruz. It's unlikely we'll ever see that kind of production out of him, but its a chance a small market club like Cincinnati has to take.
