I think BG got a big time top 200 player in the nation transfer from out of state.

Top 100 actually, and we're well aware of it.

 

The beauty of basketball is that it's a team sport. Behanan makes them #3 in the region, instead of #6 or #7 like they would have been.

I thought about putting Holmes above Eastern but didn't for two reasons.

 

1. I think Holmes will miss pg Riley more than people think

 

2. Eastern lost to only one team in the regular season last year (J-town) despite playing in the brutal 7th region. Plus, they got revenge agaisnt J-town when it mattered (the region).

 

Also, I didn't hesitate to put Scott County number 1. They are loaded. Their top four guys will be D-1.

 

But I agree that a case could be made to have Holmes ranked 1 or 2.

 

Holmes should be at least 1a or 1b. They have 3 all state players with two of them 1st team in Pittman & R. Johnson. They probably have the pre-season favorite to win Mr. Basketball in R. Johnson. Plus, they will be adding another outstanding player in Avery. With Avery and Rice being the two new starters along with Pittman and the Johnson brothers, just about every team in the state will have match-up problems with Holmes.

 

IMO: Holmes will make it back to the state championship game to defend their title.

I agree with you. Everyone is counting Boone County out. This will be a very nice team this season. They lose McFarland and everyone thinks they are down and out. As long as Mikey Gabbard is on the floor, Boone County will be just fine with Earls, Popp, Cotton, Montgomery, Brown and some others.

 

Gabbard is one of the best true PG's in the state for his senior class.

Lets be honest.... "1b" means second. Holmes should be preseason rated number 1. They won state last year, plus they return 3 core starters that helped push them to state last year. Also, people forget about Avery, this kid is a stud.

They didn't falter, the injury to Phares in the regional tourney, is what really hurt them from winning the region.

I too disagree with Bowling Green. Replace them with Christian Co or J-Town.

Christian County was a fun team to watch last year in the Sweet 16. I think they return all of their starters or at least four of them.

 

Trinity may have the best team in Louisville. I would have them in the top 10.

If I recall correctly, Holmes will not have a starter under 6'3 in their lineup. That is rare these days in high school hoops in Kentucky, assuming that the Avery kid is eligible.

You took a shot across the bow of the boat. Explain to me why you think they will faulter. Is your arguement that they won't play like a team because of all the talent on this squad? Would Guyn be happy to share the spotlight?

 

I see them getting out of the region this year. After that you need a little luck on your side to go along with the talent!

Any team that finishes runner up in the state tournament 2007-2008 and then comes back to be State Champion in 2008-2009 has the potential Mr. Basketball returning is number 1 preseason. I just don't see how Holmes cannot be PRESEASON number 1!!

Ah, come on. You have to play with the kids you put on the floor. They didnt win, so they did faulter. Injury or not, they did not do what was expected of them. And, I am sure that if you ask Jackson, Guyn, Euton and the others if they could win those games, they would have surely said yes.
