You can't forget that Holmes is bringing in a very experienced senior in Avery. He would have easily been the leader at Conner. He will now add tremendous depth to an already stacked Holmes roster. Most schools don't get the opportunity to bring in seasoned players.

Avery is more than just a solid pg.

 

Holmes will be absolutely loaded.

Avery is not a point guard. I suspect Rico will have to play point guard, which could take some rebounding away.

 

 

Holmes is not without loss either. Seven players last year played major mintues and 4 are gone. This includes their floor general and most underrated player (Riley). Holmes will no doubt be in the running for a state title but you can't mention the Card's graduation loss without mentioning the Bulldog's.

 

Who are the four that are gone? I only count three players with major minutes that are gone - Riley, D. Johnson, and Housley. James Rice was the 4th senior, but he didn't get a lot of minutes. Did someone else leave???

 

Although Riley will be difficult to replace, Holmes just reloads every year. They have returning starters Pittman, Rico, and JJ. Plus K. Rice who should move into the starting line-up and played significant minutes next year. There are always players "waiting their turn". Players like Slusher and Herndon will be seniors this year and should get more playing time. Mayfield came off the bench last year for defense late in games, but he may get some more minutes this year too. Plus they get a seasoned veteran transfer in Avery, which increases their depth.

 

I don't see how you could call injuries a excuse? As I stated before I know all too well how they can effect the dreams you have for the season. Not an excuse , but a fact that some teams have to deal with. Why some want to fail to acknowledge this is beyond me.

Tier 1:

 

Holmes

Eastern

Tates Creek

Scott County

Clark County

 

Tier 2:

 

Warren Central

Christian County

Shelby Valley

Lexington Catholic

Henry Clay

 

 

***I haven't seen Trinity, Highlands, or Boone Co. recently enough to know what they have. Trinity seems to have lots of talent on paper however.

One Holmes player who I was really impressed with at last years state tourney was Junior-to-be Kevon Rice.

 

Holmes could potentially reload with a line-up of:

 

6'3 - D. Avery

6'3 - J. Johnson

6'4 - R. Johnson

6'5 - K. Rice

6'7 - E. Pittman

 

Would imagine that 5'9 J. Herndon or 5'11 Freshman C. McClendon could challenge for starting line-up positions, but anyway that you slice it, Holmes will be long, athletic and scary good. Henley has built a dynasty in the 9th.

Reminds me of an AAU game I saw over the summer when I watched the NKY Bulldogs (a team apparently loaded with talent from No. KY) beat the DSAS and they didnt get their do respect because a player was missing. Garbage!

An AAU summer game is like an exhibition with no one there. You play all kinds of games and if you lose no big deal. You have another game in a few hours usually.

LexCath had a very good team that was led by a bid D-1 star. They were very good. Scott Co. lost their best player, who was a consensus 1st team All state player. I think losing a player that great 2 days before a championship game was tough to overcome. Thats whats great about Ky basketball. Anything can happen.

Are you serious? Of all the info in that post you pulled out the little tidbit about AAU. I just said that situation reminded me of an AAU situation. I was necessarily comparing AAU and high school ball.

 

Bottom line is, that Scott Co. team is loaded. They didnt lose because Phares wasnt there. They lost because they got beat. So, to say well "Scott Co. lost because... Phares got hurt"... that is an excuse my friends. Deal with it, accept it, and get over it.

Oh yeah, Remy Abell is a stud. I saw him a few times over the summer as well and he has a ton of talent and upside. He was a pleasure to watch and I think Eastern will be fantastic this season!
