July 7, 200917 yr Ok let me clarify :lol:, the freezer is in the storage room on my carport, its also where I keep my weedeater, I knocked it unplug when messing with the weedeater I agree that lots of bleach plus letting it air out in the sun if possible. Just be sure no neighborhood kids can have access to it.
July 7, 200917 yr While in college, my roommates and I went home for the weekend and our fridge went out over the weekend and we had deer meat, fish, steaks, etc. in the freezer and all had ruined, awful smell. But I think the worst smell that I have been associated with when my buddy while skinning a deer, accidently cut some of its guts that he should not have, that was awful! Oh, thanks for the reminder of post-mortem poo! That happened in our Gross Anatomy lab in school, "the nipping of the bowel". Something sick about a horrible smell and enjoying the torture on our friends face as we gave him grief. (Doctors have wierd humor:eyeonyou:) Still, the green milk wins in my experiences.

July 7, 200917 yr Get inside and close the lid and possibly suffocate. It has happened........... Take the door/lid off until it is ready to use again.
July 7, 200917 yr We went thru this in 2001 with the ice storm. No electricity for 11 days. I let everything refreeze. That helped with the smell. Then I emptied the freezer. Once that was done, I took it outside and bleached it several times. I left it outside for about 2 week with the door open, and we cleaned it with bleach 4 or 5 times. This took care of the stench for us.

I must agree, perforated deer innards is a unique, disgusting smell all of it's own. I, too, have had the pleasure of smelling rotting meat and such from unplugged freezers. It is not something that I would recommend on a regular basis. Raw chicken liver left in a hot car for a few days is something else that I have had to deal with recently. Really nasty.
July 8, 200917 yr I think the worst smell I've come across was a dead cow that was in a field by my house. It was rotting away, and words can't describe the smell. Today I cleaned the gutters, and there were a bunch of those helicopters and most were wet. It smelled like a dirty behind.

July 8, 200917 yr We bought a house in Louisville for a great price because there were people from India I think it was that lived there before. The smell from the food they had was beyond awful. When we pulled the fridge out to clean behind it there was blood and old meat. Dad is tough but he puked. I gave him a hard time but it was awful! Dead animals out in the wild are a pretty bad smell baking in the sun.
July 8, 200917 yr We are dealing with that right now. About 5 days ago we lost power. For some crazy reason it blew the electric in the garage. We were out of town so we haven't used the garage. Well I went to get something out of the freezer and WOW. I am letting it all refreeze then taking it out and washing like crazy. Its not fun.

July 8, 200917 yr What are the kids going to do to it? Get inside and close the lid and possibly suffocate. It has happened........... Take the door/lid off until it is ready to use again. Heed this advice, Rocket. Even if you don't think any kids could possibly find your freezer while in the back yard, don't take a chance. Just remove the door and be safe.
