June 23, 200917 yr Ed passing away got me thinking. I'm 31 years old, and barely remember some things on T.V. and others I remember well. To me it seemed T.V. was just better then, I love watching old Late Night Show, Laugh In, and especially The Dean Martin Show. Anyone feel the same?
June 23, 200917 yr We happened to have a discussion about this at work today. I'm just a little bit older than you. I don't watch t.v. shows today. I agree with you. I miss t.v. from back then. I liked the Dean Martin Variety and Ed Sullivan shows. I can also remember watching the Andy Griffith show with my parents. Other shows from when I was younger I liked to watch were; Star Trek Hogan's Heroes The Tonight show with Johnny Carson Dragnet Adam 12

First the TV shows where in black and white. Sunday nights were Bonanza and the Ed Sullivan show. At 5:00 we liked to watch the Perry Mason Show. When I was a young girl I loved the Howdy Doody Show. Then the Jetsons came along. You had to love Popye. Loved the Jeffersons Mork and Mindy Lavern and Shirley Happy Days...with "The Fonze" Missed thoes day.
June 23, 200917 yr Now it seems all there is on tv is reality shows which doesn't do anything for me. I miss shows like Bonanza, Hawaii Five 0, I Love Lucy, Happy Days, Big Valley ... when you could watch tv with the family and not be concerned about the language being used.
June 23, 200917 yr There was more TV depth in the day. I still think there are some really good shows on now, but not as many. Plus, reality TV has watered down the networks, who realize they can save a buck with that type of programming. It's a lot like 80s music. There was a lot of good music back then, which is why you see it sampled so much in today's music. A lot of the great TV ideas have already been accomplished. You can only have so many lawyer and hospital dramas and buddy sitcoms before the plots reincarnate.
June 24, 200917 yr Here we go: Hogan's Heroes Red Skelton Gilligan's Island Land of the Giants Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Star Trek (We couldn't watch Laugh In in my house but I loved what I saw years later.) Then: Happy Days Laverne and Shirley Wild Wild West MASH Starsky & Hutch All in the Family (Most times ) (Could not watch Maude) Then: Barney Miller Saturday Night Live Midnight Special Monty Python's Flying Circus (ON PBS) WKRP Then: Night Court Cheers Late Show with David Letterman tonight show with Carson Married With Children Those were just some I remembered wanting to watch religiously. Now I YouTube them. :jump::ylsuper:

June 24, 200917 yr TV has been pretty weak, overall, since the '80s. Most of my faves, as far as sitcoms go, comes from the '80s or before. M*A*S*H (which I watch almost every day, sometimes as many as 2-3 hours) All In The Family Barney Miller Hogan's Heroes WKRP in Cincinnati The Bob Newhart Show Cheers The Jeffersons
June 24, 200917 yr Kojack Adam 12 ....I agree with all the shows that were listed so far! I do miss the older shows.
June 24, 200917 yr All great shows that are listed and everyone is correct. TV was much better then. Reality shows are awful.
June 24, 200917 yr While I don't necessarily disagree with any particular point made so far I will say that the development of the narrative on TV has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 10-15 years. Shows that are more than just episodic entities that hit the reset button every week are far more enticing to me than those that just tell encapsulated stories that don't relate to any other episode. HBO has been leading the way on that one(with many shows) with FX and AMC picking up along with shows like The Shield and Mad Men. When it comes to sitcoms though, it is hard to beat the older ones. Most new ones are just recycling the original stuff from the eras before them. Now reality shows are just a lazy way to avoid telling a story and I don't count those in my view of good television.
