June 23, 200917 yr Does anyone have any suggestions for increasing protein intake? I know about eating more lean meat and chicken. But I was wondering what you would suggest supplement-wise, or through other methods. I'm not getting into bodybuilding. I have a medical situation where I need to raise my protein level, and need to do it pretty quickly. I figured you guys that are trying to build your muscle mass would be the best ones to ask.
June 23, 200917 yr I know multiple people that take Whey protein shakes. I took it at one point as well. Honestly they don't taste that good but they get the job done. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2944029&cp=2108294
June 23, 200917 yr Tuna and Red meets have the most protein. Shakes are good to but it exits your body just as fast as you drank it.
June 23, 200917 yr I use the Beverly protein powder. It is the best tasting that I have found. You can get it fairly cheaply from vitaminaisle.com
June 23, 200917 yr Tuna, hard boiled eggs, chicken. Most of the protein shakes taste bad. The best shake i ever tasted was muscle milk. A lot of different flavors and the chocolate tasted just like a milk shake.
June 23, 200917 yr I had a joke, but I'll take the high road. I recommend eating a protein bar each day (I buy mine at Wal mart and like the peanut butter and the marshmellow ones)
June 23, 200917 yr Tuna, hard boiled eggs, chicken. Most of the protein shakes taste bad. The best shake i ever tasted was muscle milk. A lot of different flavors and the chocolate tasted just like a milk shake. Muscle Milk and EAS are my fav's. You can get them at Sams really cheap if you have a membership there.
June 23, 200917 yr Eating is the best way to increase protein but as someone who tries to take in as much protein as possible I know this can sometimes be hard. Chicken, Tuna, Lean Red Meats are all good sources. Protein bars (South Beach makes some pretty good ones) Peanuts (in moderation) Soft Cheeses (in moderation) Egg Whites Oat Meal Some beans Another good option is protein powder, either whey or casein. Whey is a fast release protein and seems to give the best results when taken right after a workout. That isn't to say you can't take it any other time but you may get better results from something that is a slower release like casein. If you decide to try some protein powder don't go to GNC, they are way over priced. I use Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein and the best price I have found on it is from dpsnutrition.com. They have the cheapest shipping and lowest prices. I usually buy the vanilla and mix it with 1 to 1 1/2 cups of low fat skim milk and 1 dup of fat free strawberry yogurt. Taste pretty good actually. Another good source of info is bodybuilding.com. There are tons of articles on there about protein.
June 23, 200917 yr I'd say Tuna is one of the easiest things to implement as part of your meal that is probably not commonly included in most folks diets.
June 23, 200917 yr I've had the muscle milk light and it is the best I've tasted (Vanilla). If you work out you want to drink it within 30 minutes of working out so your body will digest it. I've got a friend that got huge (as in muscular) on Beverley Protein. Tuna is a good source.
June 24, 200917 yr I don't know if you like berries but I have a Magic bullet and I put some vanilla whey, frozen blueberries and rasberries and some milk and it makes a very good smoothie.
June 24, 200917 yr Egg Whites are probably the best natural way. Protein Bars...Balance Bars taste the best, but there are other bars that have higher protein content. Whey Protein...if you are concerned about taste the Jay Robb brand that can be found at Wal-Mart or Kroger is AMAZING. Other than that...pretty much eat only fish, chicken, and turkey.
