June 21, 200917 yr I don't know if I posted about this a while back, but my fiancee' and I went on a weekend-long trip a couple months ago and came back to find the door to our apartment unlocked. The door was not open, but it was unlocked, dead-bolt and all. Upon searching the apartment, we found no one there and nothing missing, nothing out of place. I found it hard to believe, but convinced myself that I must have forgotten to lock it. After all, the dead-bolt was newly installed when I moved in, so the landlord and myself, are the only one's with keys. I did call the landlord the following Monday and ask if anyone had come in, and he informed me that no one had. About a month after that, we were gone for another couple days and came back to find the bathroom light on. I usually double-check everything when we leave, so I was pretty sure the light was off, but again, I convinced myself that I must have just left it on. Well, we left again last night for a short, 24 hour overnight trip. When I pulled into the driveway tonight, I noticed the light in one of the rooms was on. This is a "junk" room and we hardly ever go in there. I tell her to stay in the car, and I went to investigate. The door was locked, dead-bolt was locked, and all other lights were off. I searched the apartment, and again, found nothing out of place, nothing missing, and no one there. At this point, I'm really second-guessing myself, because this kind of stuff has been adding up. After about an hour of being home, I am on the computer checking e-mails, catching up on Facebook, yadda, yadda. Then I hear the door knob rattle as if someone were trying to come in the apartment. I thought maybe my fiancee' had gone to the car to bring some stuff back inside, then I saw that the dead-bolt was still locked. If she had just been going out to the car, she would not have locked the dead-bolt behind her. I look out the peep-hole, and no one is there. Turns out my fiancee' was in another room and had been the whole time, so I grab my knife and open the door. When I open the door to see who was out there trying to get in, I see a car that was parked beside my building start to drive off out of the complex. I'm not sure if these were people trying to get in, or if someone maybe just went to the wrong apartment. I do live in an apartment complex with several college kids, so it's not completely out of the question that some drunk kid tried to go in the wrong door, but all of this stuff adding up has me puzzled, and even though the locks were changed right when I first moved in; I'm contemplating having the locks changed again. I don't really know what else I can do.
June 21, 200917 yr Answer the door quicker next time and catch the punks! Kidding...I'd change the locks. If you continue seeing weird things like that happening...set up a camera when you leave.
June 21, 200917 yr Author Answer the door quicker next time and catch the punks! Kidding...I'd change the locks. If you continue seeing weird things like that happening...set up a camera when you leave. It's not much, but changing the locks would cost about $35. I'm just struggling with that, because I know the locks were changed (and a new dead-bolt installed) when I first moved in. There's no way anyone else can have a key. I am (and have considered since living in apartments) getting a pin-hole camera that is motion activated.
June 21, 200917 yr Was the car moving away quickly? Or more normally? Have your thoughts went along the line of the supernatural at all?
June 21, 200917 yr Author Was the car moving away quickly? Or more normally? Have your thoughts went along the line of the supernatural at all? The car didn't move until I walked outside, once it did, it sped off. It didn't peel out, but it left fairly quickly. And yes, it's crossed my mind.

June 21, 200917 yr If these things continue to happen and it's not the landlord, a drunk, or someone trying to get in, and if the camera doesn't show anything, send me a PM and I will put you in touch with a paranormal group that will help. Free of charge.
June 21, 200917 yr Get a gun... That won't fix the problem. It does have the potential to cause you a ton more problems, though. Call the landlord. Change the locks. Get a camera.
June 21, 200917 yr That won't fix the problem. It does have the potential to cause you a ton more problems, though. Call the landlord. Change the locks. Get a camera. AND get a gun.

I would want a little more protection than a knife if all that crazy stuff was happening at my house. I'm not one of those crazy gun people but this seems like a good case for one.

June 21, 200917 yr Guns can cause problems if they are no used correctly. So get one but be careful and if some one breaks in and you feel like you are in danger, don't miss lol.
