Really?? 3.5 games out in the NL East. 7.5 out in the NL West. BTW they would also be in pretty good shape in all of the AL divisions. Go back to last season and see where they were at this point.

I tell you what it's got to do with . When we led the league in runs scored we were battling the friggin' Pirates to avoid the cellar. We finally have a quality pitching staff and we are in the hunt for the division lead. As for the division, perhaps you should get online and look at the records of other divisions. Pitching wins titles, plain and simple. Heck, I'd love to have both a solid staff and a team with offensive #'s at the top of the list. It's the manager, it's Bruce, it's Stormy, always something. Bottom line is the Reds are a game and a half back. That's what it has to do with.

I'm not arguing that at all. I'm saying they don't have enough offense. W/ the exception of two weeks Taveras has been terrible. I love the staff, and I've mentioned before being a small market team they can spend money on pitching or hitting. They are finally trying the right way. I'm just not calling a team 4 games above .500 that good.

My point isn't that they aren't contending. I'm saying they are in the perfect division this year. They wouldn't compete all year w/ the Mets, Phillies, or Dodgers. I'm not knocking them. I was just pointing that out.

With the pitching staff the Reds have, they have enough offense to win the division with a healthy lineup.

E-5's injury doesn't count, because he shouldn't be playing anyways, remember...

IMO they don't have enough offense to win the division. The Cubs are right where they are and they have more injury issues than the Reds. The Brewers are better offensively and not far behind in pitching.

 

If Jermaine Dye becomes available can the Reds land him? At what cost? Would you want him? If he hits 4th and plays LF I think they could win it along w/ a return to form of Votto.

I love the Reds and do not miss Griffey and Dunn and Yes we have had injuries that has hurt our offense. But these guys are professionals!!!! We should not be swing and missing as much as we are, getting in two strike holes and situation hitting is terrible. I wonder what our percentage of getting a runner in from third with less that two outs is according to the rest of the league? If Dusty and the offense keeps blowing wins for these starters, they are pretty soon going to start getting down. Starters are all about pitching wins which is there number one stat. Like HR and hitters. I believe they should a stat like the last ten days the Reds who have great starters has only one win and blew another one last night. Yes, I like this team and where we are at but we a little offense and a couple better decisions we should be in first even with out starters. In Milwaukee, the starters knew we were not scoring and the pitchers tries to be too fine and throw pitches right down the middle for bombs. There are in a good position for a team that has poor offense and brutal situational hitting. Go Reds!!!!!

If you go back, and read my post, you will see that I stated that I gave Encarnacion a pass on his struggles this year when it came to light that he has a cracked bone in his wrist.

I don't think the Cubs have more injury issues than the Reds. The Brewers are obviously better offensively than the Reds, but as we know good pitching usually trumps good hitting. I like the position the Reds are in with all of the injuries they have had.

I agree. In the past I may have bashed the Reds a time or two, and according to me they deserved it. They made some very needed changes, that not all agreed with, and poof! they are above .500 and in contention in their division. Considering the garbage that we have watched for almost a straight decade, I think Reds fans would be thrilled with what has transpired so far this season. I am.
