 I hate the lefty righty matchups Dusty uses. McDonald shouldn't be on the club, much less starting against Cole Hamels.

Ughhh McDonald is garbage. Granted Nix is awful against lefties but still.

My guess is McDonald has the week to earn his job or he's gone. Gomes has stepped up in L'ville and the Reds need a right handed bat.

Good to see Patterson, I mean McDonald, is in the lineup tonight. It's amazing to me that Dusty and Jocketty think he is a better option than Gomes against left handed pitching. Heck, why not Hairston Jr. in left, and Janish at 3B?

Just for fun, here is Gomes in his last 16....

OF Jonny Gomes (Louisville) has hit safely in 13 of 16 games (20-62, .323, 6hr) to raise his batting average from .238 to .280 and his slugging pct. from .460 to .584.:ohbrother:

Gomes in his career hits 60 points higher against lefties. I mean its a no brainer right? Lets keep the kid up here with 75 MLB at bats. There really is no excuse for why he is still on the team. I would LOVE to hear a good reason.

I agree. Every possible option is better IMO. Dickerson, Nix, Gomes, and what you mentioned.

I say you are right and Gomes will be up next week.

Some great throws there by Mr. Bruce ...

Or maybe Rosales at 3B, Hernandez at 1B and Hanigan behind the plate?

Darnell McDonald is the new ... Lenny Harris, Jose Macias, Neifi Perez, Patterson ... take your pick.

Something wrong with your boy Rosales?

He's playing 1st. Votto is still out.

Caught it the second time I looked at the lineup and corrected the post.

This is from Lance's blog:

Time for some changes

Time to stop the silliness. It's insulting to baseball fans in this town to keep Darnell McDonald on the roster.

Good guy. Nice story. Can't play. He's become Dusty's Corey Patterson.

Last night started a stretch of the Reds playing five of their next seven games vs LHP.

Call up Jonny Gomes.(.387 vs LHP this year)..improve the bench...add him to Nix in LF.

Alex Gonzalez doesn't look like he can play...and I'm not sure he even wants to play. They owe him 5.3 milliion either way. I'd release him. He won't be back next year. He serves no purpose now.

His glove will go down as the most overrated glove in the franchise of this history.

Eyeball test says he's not better than Hairston or Janish in the field right now.

Play Hairston and Janish at SS til a better option develops.

Put Joey Votto on the DL. Take care of him. Play with a 25 man roster for the first time in how long?
