May 25, 200917 yr I can't state it word for word but basically its a judement by the umpire if the fielder inhibited the runners advancing to the next base. The call can be made whether there is contact or not. It was the 3B umpires judgment that he impeded his path. Do I agree? No, but it was his call.

If he thinks the defensive player made any movement to cause the runner to be delayed (contact or not) its OBS and the runner gets the base that the umpire feels he would have gotten had there not been OBS. In the play today once they called OBS the runner was going to be safe regardless of what happened at the plate. Its an immediate dead ball and the runner automatically gets the next base after the last base he touched legally.

May 25, 200917 yr Was at the game today....Here's my take... Gonzo, while he had a good game offensively, is pathetic. Anyone who claims he should be playing has no clue about the game of baseball, Period. He's flat out terrible. Gomes made one heck of a play, because Rosales is awful. How in the name of God, do you not block a ball when you are a major leaguer? He's terrible, and everyone watching knows it. Cueto is flat out nasty. No one in baseball can hit this kid. If he can just get his stuff together and throw strikes he'd be unhittable. What is wrong with Jay Bruce? The guy couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. Flat out awful. As awful you say these guys are, and I don't agree, they are playing at a .535 clip and are 2.5 games out of first place. How soon we forget how bad this team actually has been.
