May 12, 200917 yr Pete Rose isn't in the top 10 hitters in the game ... how about Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, etc.? Yes, Rose has the hit record, thanks in part to his selfish insistence on putting himself into the starting lineup as a player-manager when the Reds had other (and better) options. Give him props for the record, but there are plenty of other guys who were better hitters than Rose. I would love to see your top ten without Pete. He got the record in 1985 and he wasn't the manager then. Was he??? :confused:

Pete came back to Cincinnati in August of 84 as player-manager. The Reds were pretty bad back then, so I'm not really sure they had too many better options though as westsider stated.

That being said, were there better options in the Reds farm system then? Pete did make the All-Star team in 1985.

Yes, the Reds had better options. In 1985, Nick Esasky could have played 1B with Gary Redus taking over for Esasky in LF. Eric Davis, a year away from his breakout season, could have gotten some more development time. Instead, Rose insisted on playing himself and his .319 slugging percentage at 1B.

May 12, 200917 yr The original point on all of this has been lost. Rose is one of the greatest hitters of all time and he has over 4000 hits. Rosales isn't quite there yet that he gets a pass from going 0-4 fielding the ball last night.

The bottom line is that he had 4 balls hit to him last night and he made 0 plays that he should have made. It was terrible judgement by the official scorer. I would be peeved if I were a pitcher and they were calling those hits.

You sound upset that he holds the record for most hits. Are you bitter about something? Is Ty Cobb your cousin or something like that? It isn't like he used PED's to break the record like several other players did recently, allegedly. :thumb:
