Picked it up one day at baseball practice to give it a try and I've dipped for 4 years now.

I wrestled, it suppressed your hunger urges.

Well, when I first started it was me and a bunch of my friends that had a can and we all tried it.

I like to dip now because it calms me, I don't know why but it does. That's one of the main reasons I can't quit.

Hang in there, you can make it. I was a 2 pack a day smoker for over 20 years. What did it take for me to quit?

A heart attack and bypass surgery at the age of 42. That was 10 years ago this month. My heart is fine now. Tobacco in any form is dangerous to your health.

Did it for 26 years and after trying a couple of times to quit that only lasted for a couple months each, finally gave it up just over 2 years ago. Once your mind is made up that you're done with it, it's not that hard to stop. Until you've made that decision, quitting will be almost impossible. The addiction starts in your head and once you've proven to yourself your mind is stronger than it, it becomes easy......good luck!!

Deciding to quit and the motivation to do so is a big factor. You've got to get it in your head that you truly need to quit. Like I stated, it took a heart attack to wake me up.

Before my first varsity start, a senior said that if I got a double-double I had to dip afterward. I accepted the bet because A) I was tired of hearing him and B) I figured there was no way that I did. After that, I didn't dip for a while until I started going to my buddy's baseball games, then I became the statistician. Then I just kept dipping. Now I only dip when it's baseball season.

Here's some motivation for you.

A gentleman who dipped went to a dentist for a cleaning. The dentist was concerned about a strange looking patch of tissue in his mouth. He hadhim see his family doctor.

He died of cancer that had already spread to his lymph nodes shortly thereafter. He was in his early 40's and had three kids (1 college age, 1 high schooler, 1 middle schooler).

I used to dip and chew and now I find it a disgusting habit.

I really wish that baseball umpires in this state would enforce the no tobacco rule consistantly.

My brother dipped for about 10 years and quit about 13 years ago. He tells me anytime he is around people who are dipping he still gets cravings. Must be some strong stuff.

Will a nicotine patch do any good in a case like this? I think it would...

Day 1, Hour 16. I'm miserable and having trouble concentrating on anything. Sunflower seeds are only mildly helping. Any suggestions? Btw, sometime this year will mark 10 years of an average of a 1.5 cans a day. I have a BIG habit.

Nicotine gum will help with cravings. Sunflower seeds worked well for me too during those moments when a dip always made things more enjoyable. The number one thing you need though is willpower.

Back in the 60s/70s I played on baseball teams where over half the team dipped. Major leauge players also did this and it was the thing to do. I quit playing softball a few years ago but guys still did it.

Keep us posted on how you are doing...

I'm at my Mom's right now for the weekend. She has Nicorette so I'll be testing it out probably. My step dad dips, so that won't make it much better, ironically I'm the one who got him started.

I had dipped for over 10 years, Just up and quit one day....Gum, Hard candies helped me, It's all in your mind, trust me, Tell yourself you dont want it, Make yourself believe you dont want it. Challange yourself...

Bout the same thing happened to me. I had chewed forever, loved dipping snuff actually. Then all of a sudden one day I just stopped, now the thoughts of taking a dip just turn me off. Crazy, don't know how it happened.
