formerkywrestler Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Day 1, Hour 16. I'm miserable and having trouble concentrating on anything. Sunflower seeds are only mildly helping. Any suggestions? Btw, sometime this year will mark 10 years of an average of a 1.5 cans a day. I have a BIG habit.

Well just trying chewing gum or something and get used to having something else in your mouth other than dip. Like a substitute or placebo that won't give you a buzz, etc. Thats just my two cents though...
MountainThunder Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Cinnamon gum is a HUGE help! Flare sugarfree seems to help me fight the cravings.
threetimelover Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Just think of what you can buy with all that money you are going to save... And good luck--I've never battled an addiction like that, but I'm sure it must be horrible to give up.:thumb:
Aiden Seamus Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 There are some "fake" dip products that may help you. They taste like a mint dip, but have no nicotine or tobacco in them. The tobacco store behind where I work has them, I can't think of the name because I just glanced at them, but I can check the next time I go in there.
JOHNDUNHOFT Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I did it for over 30 years and just up one day and said to expensive and too many friends wanting a pinch. I chewed on plastic straws for awhile and i have been off for almost 3 years. JD

Right now my plan is to keep the sunflower seed industry in business.

It was called "Bacc Off." There is also a good brand called Smokey Mountain Snuff. Warrior32 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I had dipped for over 10 years, Just up and quit one day....Gum, Hard candies helped me, It's all in your mind, trust me, Tell yourself you dont want it, Make yourself believe you dont want it. Challange yourself...
sportsnut859 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 As gross as it sounds when you're on the verge of going back put a lipton tea bag in your lip. It'll hold you over while well enough and doesn't put nicotine in your body which would ruin all your progress. :thumb:Best of luck.
Bird Bath Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 All, 15 year dip user tried all kinds of alternatives (hard candy, seeds, fake dip). It takes a while but i have kicked it for 5 years. A little over 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with Leukemia and the subtype created many questions in regards to smokeless tobacco use. The obvious was mouth cancer; but not Leukemia. One Bone Marrow Biopsy can make you forget all about dip. I wish you well because I too was a hard core dipper. I never even think about the stuff today. In remission, and in November is my cure date. see link: http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/cgi/content/full/67/12/5983
cch5432 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Pray for strength.... FKY- Pray! For me, I just try to tell myself that I'm not going to let me anything control me and my will, especially a can of tobacco.
Rebel Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Day 1, Hour 16. I'm miserable and having trouble concentrating on anything. Sunflower seeds are only mildly helping. Any suggestions? Btw, sometime this year will mark 10 years of an average of a 1.5 cans a day. I have a BIG habit. I dipped 1 can of fine cut Copenhagen a day for over 25 years. My family tried and tried to get me to quit. I decided to go to the denist in the spring of 2005 and have been tobacco free for now 4 years. I will tell you that the feeling will never go away, but it will get easier each day. You really need to keep an eye on your weight right now. I gained some pouunds after I quit and working on that problem now. What worked the best for me was the shreadded beef jerky in the can and dipped that. That worked pretty well with the habit of the can in your back pocket, and a pinch between your cheek and gum. I did that for a couple of weeks and sweated it out after that.
scamp Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Try breath-savers, spearmint mints. I stopped smoking after 32 years on Feb. 1st of this year. And they have been a life saver!! Best of luck to you :thumb:
