May 6, 200917 yr No way shape, form, or fashion is Penn State top 5 in my opinion. They have won 2 National Titles. TWO! That has to count for something. Michigan has 11 claimed national titles though the number of official is smaller because of lack of National Title consistency pre-1950's, a record 42 conference championships, most wins, best win percentage, 3 Heisman winners, 150 All-Americans. They cannot be #1 because they only have one title since 1948, but they have to be over Penn State. They've won 2 legit titles, they like Auburn could have a few more if they wanted to do the Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan thing and make up championships for themselves.

Bama was not invited back into the Rose Bowl after 1945 which gives them the distinction of the only school to win the 4 major bowl games, and to win these bowls at least twice. Team of the decade of the 60s and the 70s. Appeared in more bowl games than anyone, and won the most. The team with the most 10 win seasons. Has the only player to score a TD in every year in a major bowl game. First 3 Super Bowl MVPs are from Alabama. 21 SEC Conference Titles. Won the first SEC Championship game. Thread is best of all time so you must count their bowl wins since 94 which would hurt the ND case wouldn't it? I'll give ND 13 NCs and a face to face record over Bama, but the Bowl thing out weighs everything...thats what a team shoots for a Bowl game and win. Bama has never beaten Texas..0-7....2-5 against ND....1-2 Michigan...Northern Illinois 0-1...Central Florida 0-1 Winning records over Buckeyes 3-0....Penn State 7-5....Miami 14-3...Florida State 2-1.....Louisville 2-1 Bear Bryant had a losing record against Bama.

Notre Dame vs. the U would be great. I really don't think ole' Charlie will want whats cooking down on South Beach though. I would love it though and I know most Miami fans would as well. The titles I showed are the official ones that most people go by. If you want to count everytime a team was awarded a National Title fine, but you have to say that Princeton and Yale are the two top programs. Princeton has 28 titles, and Yale has 27, do you guys want to count them? Of course not. Does any one claim UK's split title in 1950? Not many.
May 7, 200917 yr Author Not sure about best program but I know the best team of all time. Of couse 2001 Miami. No team would even come close in a winner take all matchup. No team has ever had that kind of talent. NONE. No team was that dominant defensively, statistics out the window I don't care. I will take Wilfork, Vilma, DJ Williams, Ed Reed, Antrel Rolle and Co. over any defense. I would put Sean Taylor in at the other safety though. If they matched them up, in a superhyped up match no team, not the Nebraska teams, not the USC teams, no one would be close. No one. And I haven't even started on the offense.
