Of couse 2001 Miami. No team would even come close in a winner take all matchup. No team has ever had that kind of talent. NONE. No team was that dominant defensively, statistics out the window I don't care. I will take Wilfork, Vilma, DJ Williams, Ed Reed, Antrel Rolle and Co. over any defense. I would put Sean Taylor in at the other safety though. If they matched them up, in a superhyped up match no team, not the Nebraska teams, not the USC teams, no one would be close. No one. And I haven't even started on the offense.

 

I'll take the 95 huskers over any team ever. They steamrolled pretty much everybody. They wouldnt try to run around the Miami speedy defense, they would run over them.

Not possible. You have too many future pro starters on that defense, it was a great defense that just wasn't speedy. Sure, DJ Williams was a OLB that was faster than many RB's, but he could stick. Vilma could stick it as well as anyone, as the snail of the back 7 (4.65). Absolutely not. I love the '95 Huskers, they are my favorite non- Miami or UK team, but they would have had their hands full. They would have looked at a bunch of 3rd and longs and that doesn't bode well with Reed, and Phillip Buchanon, Mike Rumph when they were in college. I don't know how well the black-shirts would match up when the Canes had the ball either. Portis was so tough in college, but Gore was the best RB that year IMO. Before his two ACL tears he was the total package, about 9 yards per carry that year. Had he not gotten hurt, we may have never of known about Willis McGahee. Plus, Shockey, Andre Johnson, Dorsey, two first team All-American tackles in Gonzalez and Bryant McKinnie.

The Non-starters on that Canes team included:

The Canes had one close game, VT, but the Hokies made a great run to make that one close. The completely dominated Nebraska, running off to a 34-0 lead in the title game, before Coker let up. They could have set some major records in that game, had sportsmanship been lacking. With a run it up coach like Urban Meyer, Stoops, or Spurrier they would have left 70 on the board on the Huskers.

 

Many will argue '61 Bama or 71 Nebraska, but that is a different era. I think the two teams were are arguing for take those teams to the woodshed. Different level of athlete, size, speed, playing style.

I agree with you that they were an awesome team prolly number 2 on my list but I wouldnt put them about the 95 NU team. That was a complete team they dominated on both sides of the ball. I think their closest game was 14 points all year and Im sure I dont need to remind you what they did in the Orange Bowl to UF that year.

Very true. To me the top overall program is just about a 3 way tie between USC, Oklahoma and Bama. I didn't put Notre Dame because their titles do not span as much time, and well they don't play in a conference and that has to count for something. The three I mentioned just about have it all, National Titles, Conference Titles, Bowl appearances and wins, and award winners. Interestingly enough, Bama has not Heisman Trophy winners though. Hopefully, I will have my matrix finished tonight and we can put it up and have more ammo for discussion. So far, I think that surprisingly enough, Oklahoma is probably the top program, when all things are considered.

The bolded is not accurate. Both 'Bama and USC had 31 bowl victories going into last season; USC's win with Alabama's loss put USC in the lead.

USC also claims 11 national championships, although the 1928 and 1939 titles are disputed. And I've heard the split-title crap about 2003, you don't have to repeat it, but it was an AP title.
