May 12, 200917 yr Author I never mentioned FSU History is history – exactly my point. The original question was the best team of all time, not since 1980. Why should Miami’s success in a twenty year time span be considered more relevant than any other team’s success throughout their entire history? Not discounting recent titles/success, only considering the entire body of work. That is a pretty good stretch. If 1 of those were in the 40's, 2 in the 70's and 1 in the 90's and 1 in 2001, people wouldn't have problem with it. I think success before about '55 or so, shouldn't be looked at the same. It should count, but to me it's not as impressive.
May 13, 200917 yr Hatz, at least you are trying. 1941 2 loss teams, I don't know but its in the books. Back in the 60s they have them (NCs) before the bowls, not right, but again its in the books. ND/State had a blemish and we didn't. We also played the SEC while ND played whoever and State the Big Ten. media didn't want to give Bama 3 straight. The Missing Ring book is at your local library. Don't read it...It will make you somewhat a Bama dude. :ohbrother:

May 13, 200917 yr Bama and ND should have played. Did you see the points allowed for those two teams? Snake would have found some points, he just didn't get shut out much. I saw the replay of ND/State game. It was a real good game. It just hurts the fact that ND ran the clock out.

I think it would have been great if Notre Dame had rescinded it's "bowl ban" three years earlier and played Bama in '66. It would have been a great Sugar Bowl. The rules in those days were so different than what we are used to today. As mentioned, Notre Dame had a 45 year (self-imposed) ban on going to Bowls that they did not lift until the 1970 Cotton Bowl. It would have been interesting to see how they would have done vs. Bowl competition in those eras. Michigan State was 9-0-1 but the Big 10 would not allow a team to go to the Rose Bowl in successive years even if they won the title. That's why the 10 all tie was so bitter to their National Title hopes. They had no games left to play and ND had the big game vs. USC left.
May 14, 200917 yr Alabama 1-5 against Notre Dame Alabama 5-2 against USC Notre Dame 42-32-5 against USC Notre Dame is the winner
May 15, 200917 yr Ok FC I guess ND is the best Program of all time. Last time we played them we beat them, and when was the last time ND beat USC?
May 15, 200917 yr Ok FC I guess ND is the best Program of all time. Last time we played them we beat them, and when was the last time ND beat USC? October 20th, 2001: ND 27 USC 16 USC has won the last 7, prior to that ND was 4-3-1, and prior to that ND won 11 straight. The last time ND and Alabama played, ND won 37-6, November 14th, 1987.
May 15, 200917 yr That thumping of Hawaii in last year's bowl game has got FC feeling his oats. Funny thing is I’m not a Notre Dame fan. I’m analyzing the stats to determine who I believe is the best team of ALL TIME. Overall, I think you can make an argument for Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, or Michigan. Actually, I’m a huge Ohio State fan, but to be completely unbiased I think Michigan has a better argument based on the numbers, even though they have been down as of late.

May 17, 200917 yr FC, I was going by memeory, I had the games backwards. We won the year before the only time we have beaten ND. Lost by one/two points in Sugar/Orange bowls. Ohio state has never beaten Bama by the way.
