Jumpman4004 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Rockets 100 Lakers 92 Rockets steal away home court:banana:
Jumpman4004 Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 oops... messed up the title of the thread. If a mod could help me out... sorry
Big Game Player Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Couldnt believe this when I heard it. Just believe Lakers are to good to be beat that way though but it does make the rest of the series worth watching.
BaseballIsLife Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Go Rockets! Always got to root for the underdogs!:thumb:
BaseballIsLife Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 It's just one game. True but now the pressure is on the Lakers' shoulders not the Rockets. Plus, I believe, the Rockets are now 3-0 against the Lakers this year. Seems like the Rockets have the Lakers number and all the analysts seem to agree. Some teams are just the achilles heal for others based on their style of play. Seems the Rockets might be exactly that for the Lakers...

bugatti Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I will give credit to Houston and Yao, but L.A. was abysmal from the 3 pt. line, which they typically are not. Gasol was out of sorts last night as well. People always dismiss it when I say it simply because the guy is a head case, but I have always felt Ron Artest is one of the top players in the NBA. Night in and night out, I have always considered him the best defender in the league and he is a legit player on offense.
5wide Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Bad game by the Lakers. They couldn't get any shots to go down last night. Maybe a loss will help them. They don't seem to realize the playoffs started. At some point they have to come off of cruise control and crank up the intensity level. I'd like to see them start playing like a team that wants a championship rather than one that expects it. The good news: I don't think they can play a whole lot worse than last night and they still had a chance to win that game.

The most underrated aspect of his game, IMO, is his basketball intelligence. He's a very smart player who has a good feel for the game.
cch5432 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I'm rooting for the Rockets, even though I love Kobe, but I have a hard time seeing then win a whole series against LA. Like the commentators kept saying, I simply don't see them being able to put the ball in the basket enough. Defensively, though, they are as tough as anyone in the league. Artest and Battier are two of the most versatile defenders in the league. Aaron Brooks, while undersized, is as quick as anyone. Chuck Hayes is a solid one-on-one defender. And they have a 7"6 dude down low to block shots. As for offense, Yao getting in foul trouble was a blessing in disguise. Normally, he dominates the first half, then due to a combination of fatigue and double teams, he doesn't score as much in the 2nd. While he is an excellent passer, the Rockets just don't seem to hit shots in the 2nd half, normally. Scola is a decent jump shooter but he passes up too many mid-range shots for the 3's. Furthermore, Aaron Brooks was awesome this game. Fisher was a stud but he is getting old and, IMO, if the Rockets want a chance to win this game, Brooks is going to have to play at the level that he did last night in every game. Truth be told, the Lakers don't have anyone quick enough to stay with Brooks- not many teams do- if he continues to exploit that weakness, then perhaps the Rocket have an (outside) chance. BTW, you really got to hand it to the Rocket's GM. Trades away the Starting PG and T-Mac with ~30 games left? Team goes 22-8 and is playing their best basketball right now, as well as finally getting past the first round. Brilliant...
5wide Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Brooks played great last night...they contrasted his performance at home vs. away. Something lik 9 ppg in Houston vs. 21 ppg on the road. The Lakers must do a better job against him. The help defense can't let him shoot layups every time when he beats his man. The only bright side for LA, IMO, was Bynum looked a little better last night than he did in the Jazz series. At this point, I'll still take the Lakers in six. I'm assuming they'll start to play with a little urgency now that they're down 0-1 and lost home court advantage.
