What Is Your Favorite Meal to Cook?

Featured Replies

I'm a gourmet cook. I spent about 20 years in the restaurant business.

I lost count at 700 cookbooks.

I virtually can't walk by a sales table without looking at cookbooks. If I find 1 interesting recipe, I'll by the book. I actually write the recipe name I like on a piece of masking tape and put it on the spine of the book, and sort them by country of origin.

I have worked in several 4 and 5 star restaurants, and the one thing I believe is the best foods are the rustic foods from their respective countries.

USA - hard to beat a good burger or steak.

England - Fish & Chips or Bangers & Mashed

Irish - Stew & Soda Bread or Corned Beef & Cabbage

French - Boeuf Bourguignon or French Bread, Cheese, and Dry Salami

Italian - My favorite, there are so many it's hard to name just a few. So I'll go with: Polenta w/ luganega sausage & rosemary, Bolognese Lasagne, and Venetian Risotto with mushrooms & pancetta.

Germen - Brats & beers or pork & sour kraut

Just like steak and potatoes are great staples here, those others are staples there, and just about as easy to make.

I wish food was as big a part of our culture as it is other countries.

Until we stop cooking those steaks until they resemble shoe leather and drown them in A-1 or ketchup, don't hold your breath.:D

My daughter took a trip to Italy 3 summers ago, and was surprised how often that some combination of pork and potatoes was served.

We like homemade French onion or potato soup, with Chicken salad sandwiches.

Sounds pretty good.:thumb:

Kabobs - chicken marinated in jerk sauce, peppers (red & green), onions & pineapple

Grilled corn on the cob

Brussel sprouts

I love all of the above, except for the brussel sprouts. Cabbages with a Napoleon complex.

That's funny! I love asparagus as much as, if not more than, brussel sprouts.

Meatloaf. I love it!

While alot of work I enjoy doing Thanksgiving dinner for my family.

Beer can chicken with grilled portabella mushrooms.

I make a mean grilled cheese.

Any type of special occasion or Holiday cooking is my favorite as well. My mom and I have always cooked together and it is part of my favorite times growing up. Cooking for others, in general, excites me.

My favorite meal to cook is anything that comes in a box and you just stick in the oven.

My favorite meal to eat that I cook would be roast Boston butt pork with homemade bread dressing.

I find it hard to argue at all with LRCW's marinated steak on the grilll...medium rare, that is definately a favorite.

Other favs of mine wouls be.................

*Venison...........especially tenderloin (backstraps) marinated and put on the grill or cooked in the skillet with butter along with some sauteed mushrooms. Have them with a baked potato, corn on the cob.

*A venison (or beef) roast in the crock pot with potatoes, onions, carrots

*Fried rabbit, potatoes with gravy and cat head biscuts. ( same goes for fried squirrel).

*Fried catfish (or just about any other fresh fish), hush puppies with cole slaw and fried green tomatoes.

* I don't prepare it, my wife can serve up some killer baked spaghetti and manicotti.

* Drunk chicken....(whole chicken, seasoned well and set over a can of beer and cooked sloooooow on the grill)

I also fix some great homemade vegatable beef soup and chili and Mrs. Ramblers potato soup is great

(my favorite veggies with just about any meal would be garden fresh tomatoes, corn (on the cob),green beans, cucumbers and fried green tomatoes)

While alot of work I enjoy doing Thanksgiving dinner for my family.

:thumb: My favorite holiday! Dinner with everything you could ever want and more........... and then you get to the desserts:eek:! Family is in and all is great, just doesn't get any better than that.
