Anyone still want to defend Billy G?

Featured Replies

I got blasted some including by my mom but I've said all along I am much happier that UK can say "hey we made a mistake lets fix it right now" other than doing what was popular to a large majority and wait it out with him. I have always felt like it was time for UK + Tubby to move on and I never thought Billy G was a good hire. When it became obvious I was happy to see them admit the mistake and fix it. I guess that is yet to be seen but my gut feels like it's back to the dominant days. I'm estatic today!

There's a buyout on the line and would say everyones been told to play nice. After that's settled you may actually hear more.

I think this is an interesting rumor out there. I'm not saying you in particular but put your business cap on. You had a guy that held out and refused to sign a contract you had for him. Now he is gone. You don't owe him a thing because he held out. He rolled the dice and lost. IMO I don't have any problem at all if KY didn't pay him and if it is $3mill then he better be greatfull and run with it! If you had a job to do and refused to sign a contract thinking you could get more....failed at your job and were let go...do you think your company would pay you? Once again Pigman I'm not talking to you in particular just throwing that out there for debate.

Are you serious? You got blasted for saying that his longest tenured job was 3 years? You stated a very obvious fact that anyone could see on his biography and you hinted about some personal issues of his that everyone in America already knew about or always jokes about.

No I got blasted for saying there was a reason that his longest tenured job was 3 years.

And if everyone knew them why did no one else bring them up until now? Why didn't Mitch know them.

There is WAY more to this story than you'll ever hear.

If you know it, share it ...
In the Kentucky Kernel, he came out and stated that he was happy that Gillispie was gone and that it was definitely a good move. Maybe not hate, but he did not like BCG...

:thumb:

Also, when he was interviewed before their last NIT game and asked if the team was playing for their coach, ... Meeks' response was simply 'we are playing to win.' No mention of Billy Clyde in his response at all. Seeing his face and hearing his tone gave credence to what I had heard that the relationship between them was not good.

Nope.

If you know it, share it ...

If it ever comes out, I'm sure he'll let us know that's exactly what he couldn't tell us. :D

Fair enough. If you say so.

98, the only thing 99.99% of us know is that BCG was horrible with his interrelationships with the University and his role as an ambassador for the University of Kentucky. Were the warning signs there as far as that goes, maybe so. I do not recall one person (and someone correct me if I am wrong) ever saying that would be the big issue when he accepted the job. The most we ever heard was that he practiced his kids hard, was a tireless recruiter, had drinking issues, rumors about his sexual preference, he liked Dr. Pepper and women, etc.

You can take all the credit in the world for thinking you were above the curve in predicting this marriage would fail when it did (although many are in this same boat in that respect) but the only thing we see is you rubbing something in our faces that you say you have knowledge about that only you are somehow privy to... what are we supposed to think? :idunno:

98 is right on there being way more to the story.

It's also best for everyone involved if it is kept quiet and not made public knowledge.

When will people admit that 90% of the reason that BCG was run out was wins and losses. If he made the elite 8 or better, his off court transgretions would be overlooked. His players would have been happier as they would be winning and not listening or reading all of the negative stuff that surrounded the program.

I love that all of these things are thrown out here and if you ask for a link, one is not available.

Yes Cal is a great coach and will do a great job. He will win next year with BCG recruits. Will we talk about him like we did Tubby when he won with Ricks recruits?

Yes BCG should have been given another year or 2 to see what he could do with the 4 & 5 star recruits he would have.

JMO!

Why would there have to be a link?

The way this works is simple. Say someone works with a parent of a player on the team, that parent relays to that person that the majority of players can't stand coach. No link to the report, but about as trustworthy as possible correct?

Numerous incidents and off court things happened that many, myself included, will never know. You can believe that Gillispie would still be the coach if they had been winning all you want, but the more you actually find out about the situation, the more you realize that just wasn't the case.

BCG may not have been the best coach, but I think any human being should be treated with more dignity than to be chased by a reporter right after he has been officially fired. That was embarrassing to say the least.

But, on the other hand, as I have said ALL ALONG.....Calipari is the best coach in the country and I'm very glad that he is at UK.

I'm guessing you came to that conclusion in the last 48-72 hours?

Are you aware of some of the stuff that was going on behind the scenes?

Actually I'm pretty sure he's been talking about how great Cal is/was for quite a while now...
