I understand where you were coming from, I wasn't accusing you of anything. I just never understood why tattoos and thugs went hand in hand. And I'll agree with you on UK never having boys with many visible tattoos. If Cal comes, they will have a reality check.

And for the record, I agree that a lot of UK fans are delusional, or if not delusional, at least obsessive/compulsive.

But, there were off-the-field issues. Many UK "insiders" alluded to those issues, but they weren't apparently widely known. We were derided for the kinds of kids we were winning with. UK fans asserted that they didn't have to resort to such recruiting. Now, people are clammoring for a coach who's past inidcates he'll recruit exactly the same kinds of kids. But, it's all OK, because UK will be back on top and in the Final Four next year. Where is the consistency here?

 

What is important to UK fans? Is it winning? Is it integrity? Is it PR? Is it long-term? Is it short-term? From reading all these threads, I'm overwhelmed with the whole situation...and I LIVE in Kentucky. I can see where you're coming from RockMom, some Kentucky fans don't like anyone being better than them, and when in reality, since 1903, when Kentucky first introduced their basketball program, The Cats have really only been the best team in the country 7 times.

 

For me, Winning is important, doing it cleanly matters as well, long term success is more important than short term. Many say Cal is a short term fix, I don't buy it, I think he will be here-if he does in fact come-for a while and Kentucky will have an excellent run under him. Another thing I really feel is important is what Coach Urban Meyer tries to do at the University of Florida: his goal is to make sure every player that enters his program grows as a man and leaves it a better person than he came in as.

Shawn Taggart and reserve player Jeff Robinson were arrested for inciting a riot outside the Plush Club.

 

Back in October 2006 Dorsey and his teammate Hashim Bailey were accused of threatening, pouring water on and throwing water bottles at two female students. Dorsey has also been in two other police reports alleging he punched someone in the face then ran away.

 

Robert Dozier got in on the action in February (2008) when he followed his ex-girlfriend after she left the Plush Club, got out of the car he was driving in at an intersection, and proceeded to hit her twice. Dozier was suspended for one meaningless blowout game against SMU.

 

Back in 2005 then Memphis standout Jeremy Hunt was arrested for battering his girlfriend. Hunt went on to break his hand in a bar fight, a crime that got him kicked off the team until two Memphis players left for the NBA and Calipari brought him back on the team out of desperation.

 

The most recent issue involves reserve guard Andre Allen, who seemed to be back on the right track after getting caught soliciting a prostitute back in 2005. Allen was suspended prior to the Final Four for a, “violation of team rules.” Allen also reportedly failed a random drug test given by the NCAA

 

Tyreke Evans, who was admittedly in the driver’s seat during a drive-by shooting resulting in the death of a teenager in early 2008.

I root for UK. Grew up listening to Cawood and kept a scrapbook from their 1978 championship season. I have more UK clothing than any other college and watch them on the tube more than any other college. But it's been hard to remain a UK fan in the past decade because of the fan base. It was funny listening to people call into the coach's show and ask if Richie Farmer was going pro. Until you realized they were serious. Fans who didn't want Calipari here two years ago suddenly think he is the second coming of Roy Williams. Fans who were on the BCG bandwagon in 2007 were among the first to call for his outster in 2009. It's hard to remain a fan when you have to wade through the nonsense on here from people who claim to be UK fans. I'm not questioning their allegiance. Just their practicality of the situation.

 

UK fans couldn't wait to get rid of Tubby because he couldn't recruit among other things. UK fans hailed Gillispie and his recruiting prowess. Yet when you go back through the recruiting threads and read them, it seems like BCG whiffed on a lot of recruits that had UK among their top 3-5 teams.

 

Orten and possibly Patterson are the only two big-time recruits BCG landed, although many feel Patterson would have played for Tubby had he stayed in Lexington.

 

He landed another Jared Carter in Dakota Euton and others who STILL aren't among the tops in their classes. But that's what UK wanted.

 

There were people on here in November and December claiming this was a Final Four team. Simply laughable.

 

It's the same way being a fan of the Cubs. The delusional ones make it tough to respect the legitimate ones.

 

My brother in Dallas says people in Texas are laughing their tales off at how the Gillispie/UK situation played out. A big fat "I told you so." They say UK fans got what they deserve.

 

Of course, no one in Kentucky thinks that because the fans are too busy wearing the blue and white glasses.

 

As far as the avatar goes, maybe it should have been a picture of people piling on a big pile. Today's UK fans have gotten good at that. I simply chose the bandwagon since Uk is close to hiring a coach that two years ago, nobody on here wanted.

 

Apparently, there is still plenty of room on the bandwagon.

 

I'm aware that our fan base is zealous to say the least...but I live in Tennessee and it isn't much different here. I heard a caller last year talking about Chris Loften and how he was much better than John Stockton because he could shoot better. That is just one example. Have you ever listened to broadcasts from Tuscaloosa, Chapel Hill, Columbus...I mean, this is the world we live in now John Cooper, Mike Shula...it is what it is.

I don't see many changes in who/what Calipari recruits. A Tiger doesn't change his stripes, so to speak. I'd say if Mitch and Lee start telling Cal he can't recruit the guys he's been getting, Cal's tenure in Lex won't last long. And who's to say that's not a sticking point delaying the announcement?

I just picked out a few of your statements to comment on.:thumb:

 

1.) I did the exact same thing, I also own a dept. store of U.K. clothing and Cawood needs no explanation...quite simply the best ever or that will ever be. Anyone that thinks other wise I wouldn't be too sure about .

2.) As for me, I disagree about being hard to remain a U.K. fan, I will always be a U.K. basketball fan along with other sports as well.

As for the fan base, I don't lump all U.K. fans in that group of idiots that really have no idea what is going on.

3.& 4.) I agree here. Seems now like Tubby wasn't as bad as people were saying :sssh: and I feel VERY confident int Patterson was coming to U.K. to play for Tubby, he recruited patterson, that is fact. All BCG did was to make a visit and confirm that he would still want him. Also, as far as a basketball coach/basketball knowledge as well as being a class act there is simply no comparison in the two, BCG fails in that (class act and in game coach) dept. miserably.

5.) Absolutely agree. I though they would win or at least finish 2nd in the sec but final four four was ridiculous. Those were some of the fans that I spoke of earlier.

6.) I can belive this, I feel tha MB dropped the ball when it came to investigating things furhter before hiring BCG.

7.) I certainly agree about the bandwagon jumpers but I must say that I also posted that I didn't want Calapari....not bc of his coaching, he is obviously a top tier coach. My concerns were and to some extent still are about his past NCAA problems/violations at UMass and being suspected of some at Memphis along with some of his Memphis players "questionable" character/trouble with the law.

 

I recently posted that "if" Clapari was hired (it seems that way but is not a done deal yet) that he (Cal) would have my full support bc he would be our coach and I am a U.K. fan, that is what fans should do. JMO. I have supported every coach at U.K., even Eddie Sutton untill he proved what he was and did to the program.

Do you really want to go there ScarHeel? I mean the list is pretty profound for UNC as well. Not school, not UK, UNC, Memphis or Duke or anyone is above these kinds of issues.

Seeing it first hand, they're laughing at us. They think we're arrogant in thinking we should have any coach we want and that Lexington is where God himself anointed the game of hoops.

 

As I point out to those who tell me this, it makes us similar to Florida, Alabama, or Ohio State football fans. The difference is, we are truly the chosen program. :thumb:
