March 18, 200917 yr I used to get this call constantly, both on my cell and work phone. I googled and saw the same forum, as far as I know, the feds are well aware of the scam.
March 18, 200917 yr Jennnnnny, don't change your number. (Not) This # just called my cell phone. I missed the call, and they did not leave a message. Before I called them back, I googled the #, wondering if it was a business or a home number that I'd be able to figure out. The only thing that came back was a website that had a lot of posts from people saying that this # kept calling them and a recording kept telling them that their car warranty was about to expire, asking if they wanted to renew, etc. I called the # back, and sure enough, it was a recording regarding warranties. The recording gives you an option of pressing 1 to be put on the call block list, or to press 2 to do something else (I hung up before I heard the option). I'm guessing it's a scam of some sorts. Anyway, my questions for BGP are: 1. How do these "companies" get our numbers? The website where I read about the number have posts from people who claim that they've never given out their cell number & don't even know it themselves. It has posts from kids who claim to be 15 year old girls who have not given out their numbers. I don't know what to believe, but I think you get the point. 2. Has this number (or anything similar) called you? same # called me twice last week. has to be a scam.

Has this number (or anything similar) called you? Same company has been calling me. At first I was concerned because I just bought a new "used" car with an extended warranty in December. I spoke with someone for about 30 seconds trying to find out if it was my warranty that was expiring or if this was a sales call, the guy started asking for personal information and I was done. Asked to be removed from their call list.
March 18, 200917 yr Lexis Nexis and other data banks purchase and sell cell phone, home phone, etc. information for pennies to any company who wants to purchase them. It's very easy to get cell numbers, home numbers, unlisted numbers, email addresses, if you know where to go and willing to pay the freight.

March 18, 200917 yr This is why I don't answer the phone unless i recognize the number. If I don't know the caller and its important, they will leave a message.
March 18, 200917 yr I've gotten a few calls in 2 weeks from that number claiming it was my final notice on the warranty on my car or something. I just shrugged it off. I've gotton a few of those calls I just ignored them.:taz:
