ColonelCrazy Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Jennnnnny, don't change your number. (Not) This # just called my cell phone. I missed the call, and they did not leave a message. Before I called them back, I googled the #, wondering if it was a business or a home number that I'd be able to figure out. The only thing that came back was a website that had a lot of posts from people saying that this # kept calling them and a recording kept telling them that their car warranty was about to expire, asking if they wanted to renew, etc. I called the # back, and sure enough, it was a recording regarding warranties. The recording gives you an option of pressing 1 to be put on the call block list, or to press 2 to do something else (I hung up before I heard the option). I'm guessing it's a scam of some sorts. Anyway, my questions for BGP are: 1. How do these "companies" get our numbers? The website where I read about the number have posts from people who claim that they've never given out their cell number & don't even know it themselves. It has posts from kids who claim to be 15 year old girls who have not given out their numbers. I don't know what to believe, but I think you get the point. 2. Has this number (or anything similar) called you?
KyTiger89 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I once received a call from a company claiming to be similar to US Bank, and was asking for my credit card number and information. No thanks. Not sure how they get our numbers.
Butterfly Baby Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Ive gotten calls from the same number about warrantys as well. I dont know how they got my number either.

Has this number (or anything similar) called you? I was just at my mothers house and heard her cell phone. When I answered it , it was a recording. I hung up but looked at the numbers that had called and that number is very familiar looking. My mother rarely uses her cell phone. And if she does it is only to call family.
NHS BIG DADDY Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I've gotten a few calls in 2 weeks from that number claiming it was my final notice on the warranty on my car or something. I just shrugged it off.
strongopenyon Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 The area code is for the San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles.
True blue (and gold) Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I got the call last week, as did someone else that I know from DC.
Boucher Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I got at least 10 calls from the same number/company a couple of months ago.
coldweatherfan Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I don't know if this is one of the $9.95 charge scams or not. There are both text and phone scams that will charge your phone bill $9.95. The text will be from a 5-digit number like 91865. If you open the text it will add a $9.95 charge to your phone bill. This phone thing may be one of those also. I've gotten a few calls from them but have never responded. They ask you to press one to speak to an agent. Could be if you respond you get charged.
