As good as Tebow is, I can't see them winning back to back, without help from Rainey and Demps. Take away Harvin and Tebow was the bulk of the running attack last year. See SEC Championship Game for backup. I think you are going to see more and bigger spy backs keying on Tim. They have to have another running outlet.

 

The O-Line is key, too. They've got 2 starting tackles to replace. Is Carl Johnson done? Will Meyer throw him off the team?

While he is not the explosive type back of Harvin, Emanuel Moody seemed to be picking up on things by the end of the season.

It would be nice to see a KY boy mix it up down in Gainsville, with the disciplinary problems we are having and possibly losing Carl Johnson, he may work his way onto the field. I would say Matt Patchan may move back to the offensive line-he was recruited as an OL-but with Torrey Davis' problems, that doesn't look like it will happen. I look for Xavier Nixon to work his way into the starting lineup by mid-season. But it is never out of the question, Coach Meyer will play any and everybody that will work hard.

Well first off, let me (as a Canes fan!!!), say that UF unfortunately is the odds on favorite to repeat as champions. They have Superman in Tebow (Yuck!!), Darth Vader (Urban Meyer), The Incredible Hulk (Brandon Spikes), and two Usain Bolt impersonators in Demps and Rainey. They have alot of talent on the defensive side, and one of the overall top coaching staffs in America. Also, even if they have a loss, I believe if possible the voters will put them into the title game, unless that loss is in the SEC title. Also, while they play in a tough conference, many of the top dogs will be a little down, as Tennessee can think "Lance" Kiffen for losing them any chance of upsetting the Gators, UGA will be down, and we really don't know what to expect from LSU.

BTW, Aaron Hernandez is light years better than Cornelius Ingram, atleast in the Gators offense.

Also, while they have big name, highly regarded WR all over the place, none have a full season worth of big plays on the resume, although Nelson made some big plays late in the year. Also, they will have a huge target on their backs, and people will really go at Tebow. If he goes down look for them to struggle, as Brantley isn't what I would call a spread option type of QB.

 

Teams that could beat them

 

LSU: While we don't know what to expect from them, they have as much talent as anyone, and the game will be at night in death valley. After last years embarrassment look for a better game this year.

 

Bama: If they can win the SEC West they will provide a great challenge for the Gators, as they had the lead in the 4th quarter on them last season. John Parker Wilson is gone, but he was more of a game manager than a game breaker at QB, look for Greg McElroy to step up where JPW left off. Athletic Star Jackson, will play if McElroy faulters.

 

Oklahoma: Defense will be better for the Sooners, and Bradford will be Bradford. Even if their offense isn't record setting again, it will potentially be better with both RB's back along with Gresham. WR and O-Line are question marks though.

 

USC: They will reload. They have easily the deepest backfield (1-5) in college football. They will have a lot of new starters, but all should be quality replacements.

 

I don't think Texas or OSU will pose much of a threat to UF. They simply aren't athletic or quick enough. Texas has McCoy, should I guess they would have a little bit of a chance.

 

For a potential upset for the Gators, what about UK? I know UK fans say this every year, but UF may really be napping when they head to Lexington. The UK game is sandwiched in between the UT and LSU games, and add to the fact that Florida ran UK out of the stadium, the Gators may be a little flat vs. the Cats. UK may get killed again, but the last few years they have seemed to play well at home against teams they supposedly have no shot against, atleast once a season. For that to happen the Cats offense would have to be better, but atleast for us in the bluegrass, it couldn't get any worse.

What did I say that was any different? UF is the undisputed favorite for the National Title, but to say that the Gators offense won't miss Harvin is insanity. Their offense will still be good, but it will lack the all purpose threat that Harvin was. They will still be fine, but Harvin was great running the ball from the slot, or at TB, and was tough on crossing routes. The offense will have to change and will be more vanilla. I guess Debose could change that, but I see him as more of a pure WR, instead of the type of Hybrid Harvin played. Actually, I think their passing game could be better. The returning WR are more typical for the position rather than just athletes, as for all of his greatness Harvin was an athlete playing WR, he wasn't a great route runner, and really didn't run many types of routes. He was pretty much running a drag or a bomb. I won't even comment on Louis Murphy, my personal bias towards him doesn't allow me to make a valid judgement on him. The brightside for the Gators is that whoever replaces him probably won't drop as many passes, but he did make a few big plays and that will be tough to replace.

The defense is nasty, and will be tough to score on. Spikes is the best defensive player in the nation, people will realize that this year. He cleans everything up from tackle to tackle, and is unblockable. For your boy Will Hill, I think maybe hard hitting Major Wright should play some weak side LB, to get more athletes on the field. He would have to be better than Dustin Doe or whoever else is playing there.

If Florida plays Bama at Bama, then I think they have the best chance of beating them. My 2nd pick would be Georgia.

Agree Bama will be a very good team. As a Gator hope they will meet again in SEC Championship game. Think that the Gators will be hard for anyone to overcome this coming season. Also playing in the SEC will be hard for Florida or any other team to go Undeafed. Go Gators.

Sam was in Louisville about a week ago, spring break I guess. He said he's up to about 315 and that he thinks he's got a real shot at seeing time at center (One of the twins will probably move out to right tackle).

I'm not so sure about my Trojans this year. They will have 4 of 5 back on the OL, a great backfield, awesome fullback, TE, and 2 very good WR's. With Sanchez, I would say they were contenders. Without Sanchez, and with all the LB's and DB's graduating (except Mays), I think its going to be tough. They will have to get extra octane out the 3 returning DL starters, but I'm not sold yet on Mustain or Corp at quarterback.
