Just got in from the game...stayed and watched the first half of the 9th region finals.

To the Mason Co coaching staff and basketball Royals, congrats on a great comeback win tonight. You are a class act and will represent the 10th region with class and pride. I can't say the same for SOME of your fans.

 

To my GRC Cards. Guys I know how disappointed your are. To all the seniors, Robert, Ryan, Jaron and Patrick. It has been a joy to watch you play from the 6th grade until tonight. I know the future will hold great things for all of you.

 

Also a huge :thumb: for the GRC student section tonight...you had the largest one there and the farthest to travel.

Papa has been in a celebratory mood, so please forgive the tardiness of this post.

 

I thought it would be a good day all-around when my lawn mower started up on the first pull this afternoon. Very encouraging, but I didn't want to put the hex on the Royals by blabbing it all over BGP.

 

I thought all along that the 94-foot floor would work in Mason County's favor. It took just over a half, and I won't pretend that I wasn't composing my "congrats to Clark County on the win" post early in the second half.

 

After giving up the 3 early in the second quarter, Mason County simply shut Clark County down; allowing 16 points the rest of the way. Relentless pressure on defense; the Cardinals really had to work to get the ball to the half court.

 

Pretty much every Royal that played made some crucial plays, especially down the stretch.

 

Big game for Middleton; 13 points and double figures in rebounds as well. That net around your neck after the game looked pretty nice.

 

Big game as well for Neal Pawsat. Played like a warrior; and maybe all 32 minutes? His shooting early kept the Royals within shouting distance. Nice to have a post player that can hit the three and keep defenses just a little bit honest.

 

Downing with 8 big points; a huge play down the stretch that got Zollo fouled out. He wasn't on Stenzel the entire game, but most of it - and holding him to 13 for the game was huge.

 

Jordan Gilbert with big plays down the stretch as well; his FTs iced it.

 

Setty had a tough night shooting, but hit two huge FTs at crunch time. No one I'd rather have at the line.

 

Barner with a monster dunk as the Royals were making the comeback.

 

Hamm with pressure defense all night long.

 

Justin Lang is as good an 8th man as I've seen anywhere in the Commonwealth.

 

 

 

I'm sure it's already been said, but what heart the Royals showed tonight. Great job, guys!

The Fieldhouse could have held the crowd there tonight, very dissapointing, lots of noticeable empty seats and sections. Clark just gave this game away,could not handle press this late in the season, Stenzel and Zollo very unimpressive.

 

Can we just give it a rest?

 

People have to remember, the BOK hold 9,400, by halftime of the first game it was over 7,000 and pushing 8,000! GREAT turnout!

Cards seem to play up to the competition, or down! Robbie Stenzel shows everyone who the best player in the tenth is this year and goes off on Mason for 35! Cards by 12!

Mason might as well plan a parade for, oh, 2012 cause it may be a long dry spell in Maysville!

Royals showed why they were the best team in the Region Tonight. Mason Co seemed to be in alot better shape than GRC. Setty and Pawsat were running up and down the floor with ease.

 

Zollo seems to have good moves around the basket and it going to be a good player.

 

 

Good 2nd Half Coaching by O'Hearn Mason Co started to work the basketball and Mason Co's Full Court Man to Man Gave GRC trouble.

I have to give props out to what Mason County Coach Ohearn deemed as Mason Countys 6th man, the Mason County fans, you came out in bunches tonight and you really rallied the troops. You are a great bunch of people!

Zollo has the biggest feet I've even seen on a high school kid. I liked how he went to the boards and the low-post moves he showed.

Also, I neglected to mention, besides the losses the Royals suffered from graduaton, what a way to overcome the adversity of the loss to start the year, the lady passing out at Scott County, the three free throws against Clark the first time around, and the way-laying by Elliott in Sandy Hook. Also, the adversity caused by injuries that saw four of their five starters miss games this year. Just a focused team that finally pulled it together tonight in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Congrats again!

First it was nice to meet you Godie and hopefully your window shield get fixed quickly and your son is OK.

 

This game was outstanding and as a fan of basketball I had a blast watching the 10th tourney. Good luck to both teams seniors, and to MC good luck at Rupp that is until you meet up with the Holmes.....

Hey, thanks for the shout-out PR! Yours is one I will actually give some credence to.

 

I'm not here to gloat, since as most of you have said, preseason predictions mean nothing. Then again, those are probably the same people who blasted me for it in the first place, but I'm not in the business of saying "told you so."

 

I will, however, say congratulations to the Royals. When everyone said Miller, Setty, King and Tolle were too much to replace, this team proved different. The young players stepped up as we hoped and thought they would, and as it turned out, adding assistant coach Kelly Carwile to an already talented support staff turned out to be one of the better "transfers" of the year. It's not often you see an assistant call out a play even before it's run by the opposing team, and I can tell you that Brossart, Montgomery and Clark saw it happen countless times over the last four days.

 

It's been a great ride, and I hope it's far from over. And hey, you can say homecourt advantage this, traveling times that ... and I'd reply -- to quote something I believe I've seen on here before -- the best team won tonight!!

 

This guy should get a look for a head coaching job in my book somehwere he can flat Coach.
