I was surprised with GRC's inability to handle Mason's full court run and jump. GRC continued to make the same mistake all night, never coming back to receive the pass and dribbling up the sideline. Kudo's to Mason for extending the pressure and getting into the GRC passing lanes. ( When GRC tried to pass, which was not often enough.)

 

I also thought GRC rushed too many poor shots- several GRC players took shots with men on them instead of passing out of a double team- too much selfish play on the part of the Cards, IMO.

I can tell you the Cards are going to sorely miss those 2 senior starters Hatton and Williams.Hatton is the one that done a lot of scoring early and got them out to the big lead and when Williams wasn't in they really struggled bringing the ball up court against the press alot.These 2 will really be missed next year more than most are giving credit for.Does anybody know if either is playing ball after high school?

I really think these Royals will make a deep run at state.

If I were to guess I would say about 5-6 Thousand. The place look pretty full the lower level, with the only noticable emptyness in the endzone of the upper level.

 

The Fieldhouse could have held the crowd there tonight, very dissapointing, lots of noticeable empty seats and sections. Clark just gave this game away,could not handle press this late in the season, Stenzel and Zollo very unimpressive.

I really think these Royals will make a deep run at state.

 

I will be pulling for them no doubt about it, but Shelby Valley is tough.

I really think Pawsat was the X-factor in tonight's game, he made some huge plays.

As I stated in a thread earlier without the bench of Clark County on a college floor, you had to believe Clark County wouldn't be able to run with Mason County for 4 quarters of play. The score wouldn't have been close if we make any free throws early in the 4th. It's a matter of time that Zollo, and company would run out of gas. I don't think you can play 6 guys in a regional final, and expect a positive outcome unless 5 zollo's or stensil's showed up tonight. Great effort Cards, I think we need to rename the Bank of Kentucky Center the Mason County Showcase CENTER!!! GO ROYALS! Shelby Valley will be a tough challenge, we will need to play much better at Rupp.

Zollo has the biggest feet I've even seen on a high school kid. I liked how he went to the boards and the low-post moves he showed.

Pawsat was huge for Mason for the first half and through the third quarter, then Middleton finally started to get going.

 

This was just the tale of two halves. Clark jumped out and played great the first half, the Royals didn't. The Royals outplayed the Cards in the second half. Outscored them something like 36-17 in the second half. Treg Setty was a nonfactor in this game, but hit 2 big free throws in the 4th. Free throw shooting in the 4th could've hurt the Royals, but they knocked them down when they needed to. I thought Phil Barner made 2 huge baskets in the game as well when they were making their comeback, and Jordan Gilbert hit a huge 3 in the 4th quarter that put the Royals up 2. A great team effort tonight, all around.

 

I have no complaints about the refs...I thought this game was called as fairly as it could be. There were no calls and questionable calls on both ends tonight, but the refs didn't hurt or help the outcome. The kids really fought this one out.

 

Congrats to the Cards on a great season, and I'm sure this rivalry will be strong for the next few years, as both teams will remain contenders for the title.

 

And...although I am a fan of having it at the Fieldhouse, I really enjoyed the BOKC. It felt like a mini state tournament and the atmosphere was great. The only thing I didn't like were the outrageous concession prices, which are understood I guess, and that all the fans seemed really spread out, which made it seem like a lot less people were there.

 

Overall, great tournament. Good luck to the Royals at state!

I'm not here to gloat, since as most of you have said, preseason predictions mean nothing. Then again, those are probably the same people who blasted me for it in the first place, but I'm not in the business of saying "told you so."

 

I will, however, say congratulations to the Royals. When everyone said Miller, Setty, King and Tolle were too much to replace, this team proved different. The young players stepped up as we hoped and thought they would, and as it turned out, adding assistant coach Kelly Carwile to an already talented support staff turned out to be one of the better "transfers" of the year. It's not often you see an assistant call out a play even before it's run by the opposing team, and I can tell you that Brossart, Montgomery and Clark saw it happen countless times over the last four days.

 

It's been a great ride, and I hope it's far from over. And hey, you can say homecourt advantage this, traveling times that ... and I'd reply -- to quote something I believe I've seen on here before -- the best team won tonight!!

Gosh that almost slipped my mind, I believe I have always said that:clap:

Mason has a great team and will represent the region in true 10th region style.
