I am in awe of Ken Burns' "The Civil War" documentary on PBS

 

The combination of the photographs, the music and singing, and the narration of the historical events is just mesmerizing to me.

 

Anyone else a fan?

My all-time favorite documentary. I could listen to "Ashokan Farewell" and just put it on repeat. Haunting.

As a history buff this is absolutly my favorite series of all time. When it first came out my 90 year old uncle in Atlanta would not allow my aunt to watch it. She had to wait until he died a couple years later to see it. I still get out the vhs tapes every once in a while and watch it with the kids.

I do love his baseball series better but the civil war one is EXCELLENT!

Historian Shelby Foote was excellent with his commentary. He was getting on in years when this documentary was made and sounded like a wise old southern gentleman. I felt like I was living some of the events when he described them.

I agree completely. I like the story he told of how he got to swing General Nathan Bedford Forrest's sword over his head.

I am a complete War Between The States buff. I even re-enact.

I loved the series. Is it on again right now?

I saw the 6th episode last night on WV PBS station. I don't think the KY PBS station is playing it right now.

I like all his documentarys... Currently I am watching "The War" documentary on DVD. I want to see the civil war documentary.

Great documentary. My son and I spent a sunrise on the rocks of Devil's Den at Gettysburg 4 years ago. We're both big Civil War buffs and this is a great show.
