Eta Rho
I wouldn't say the dunk was as impressive as the unexpected nature of it. It was pretty normal; not like he hammered it but it was just exciting because I didn't expect him to do it at all. From what I heard, you would have thought he didn't dunk at all. Thanks for clarifying though. Edited February 24, 2009 by Eta Rho

ckshockey
As a Beechwood Alumni I am happy for the Tigers. It's not like football. We haven't had a team like this before. Congrats to CovCath, a valient effort all season. Some of my best friends are CovCath Alumni and we always had to face either CovCath or Holmes in the first round of the Districts back in the 70's and though there were some close games, we never won, hence never getting to play in a Regional game. i would love to see a nice run. I look forward to seeing how we fare against a team of Holmes quality.

Eta Rho
A very nice story in today's paper about the win and Coach Schumate...I recommend reading it: Beuttel Aces Covcath Tears welled in Rick Shumate's eyes minutes after Beechwood High School on Monday recorded what he called its "signature" victory in his two seasons as boys' basketball coach. The Tigers' 63-56 comeback win over Shumate's alma mater, Covington Catholic, in the opening round of the 35th District tournament at Holy Cross' sold-out Finn Activity Center was wholly satisfying for the coach. And yet, it also left Shumate feeling a void. "To not have my dad here to experience this with me is kind of hard," Shumate said. Eta Rho
Also, for those who were wondering: The two victories for Beechwood over Covcath this year are their only two W's over Covcath since Rick Schumate's senior year at Covcath in 81-82. Also, the last time CCH didn't make the region tourney was in 96-97. I believe they had the longest run of straight region tourney appearances snapped last night. It was pretty normal; not like he hammered it but it was just exciting because I didn't expect him to do it at all. I agree. I wasn't expecting it either. It wasn't a 'show off' dunk. It was a nice, I can play at the next level and I'm a man on this court, instrumental in the game, STATEMENT dunk, to get the Tigers fired up early on and the Colonels doubting. In that respect, the shock and awe of it was impressive. :thumb:
B-Ball-fan
Congrats to Coach Shumate. You made your Dad very proud. :thumb:
B-Ball-fan
I hadn't seen it mentioned yet and taking nothing away from the Tiger's impressive victory, but Luke Maile went over 1000 career points in this game. Congrats to Luke. :thumb:
Chico Ruiz
They played so well as a team that I hesitate to single out anyone, but Trey seemed to dominate the second half. Does anyone have the breakdown of how many points each player made? I've watched this Beechwood team 4 times this year and every time I see a team with all 5 guys doing their job. Tonite was a perfect example: 1st half even contribution of scoring and Schneider goes to bench with 2nd foul ; the Smith kid did not allow Isler to score where CCH should have pushed the ball down low with their big guys. Huge mistake on Listerman!! All six players contributed excellent. Obviously Beuttel dropping 20 on CCH in 2nd half, Hall big layups (DRIVING),Snyder key jump shots, Smith's big stick back on rebound and not allowing Isler anything down low,Romes relentless driving and determination, and do not forget the Pohlgeers 3 pointer from as deep as you can get. Hats off to Beechwood and Coach Shumate who clearly outplayed, hustled, and outcoached CCH. Don't worry Old Guy your tem will return it's glory soon enough!! Great job Luke and congrats on 1,000 pts. Clyde
Note: I'm sure I'm in the minority on this board when I say I don't mind trash talking/talking one bit. I have no problem with it. AJ Smith may give Pittman a run for his money when it comes to yapping.
