How far will Russell stoop to try and win an Academic competition?

Featured Replies

Russell has always been (until now) a school that I looked up to in regards to academic standards and curriculum. I have always been eager to tell anyone from outside our area of the pride I have for our local youth. Not now. What message are you sending to the youth when you can't be honest? This, imo, is the worst case of academic fraud and they should be disqualified from competition.

Disgraceful.... Russell should have to pay for all the other school kids to travel back for the written tests.

If team A leaves a destination at 7:30am and drives at 40 mph on a dry road, and team B leaves a destination at 7:45am and drives at 35 mph on a road that is supposedly slick, but without their top written test student, who should arrive at Boyd County first?

Not to be confrontational at all, but let me get this straight, you no longer hold Russell's academic standards and curriculum in high regard because of an academic meet? Even though it has absolutely nothing to do with everyday academia at the school? And how is this academic fraud?

I'm not defending what happened assuming it happened that way. However, am I the only one who thinks this is funny that the article is founded on this?: "Based on conversations between coaches and parents in the corridors, the problem wasn’t the weather, however, and the written-test delay was caused by an RHS student who couldn’t be present at Saturday’s tournament"

That's some crackerjack investigating.:ohbrother:

Yeah, I thought that was a little weak too. It's almost like, "This one time, at band camp--in the hallway--I heard that..."

Well it certainly couldn't have been the weather that's for sure. Either way it definitely looks like Russell was trying to pull a fast one.

Oh, I am not taking your thoughts as confrontational at all. I think that I misspoke in my post with regards to the school's academics vs the academic team. I didn't mean the school's academics were now in question (even though I posted this way, it was intended to be directed at the academic team and it's advisors for allowing this to happen). And all of this is only if the events that were heresay at best are acurate, according to The Independent.:thumb:

Without sounding like I am waffling, I, too, think something is wrong with the situation. I would like to say that I would like to hear a more definitive answer than what was reported in the paper ".....overheard in the hallway" as it's source.

This is the best response to a post I have seen in a long time. Classic!

As someone who spent 4 years of academic team in high school getting dismantled by the machine that were the "Russell Robots" this one brings a slight smile to my face. But I do feel bad for the kids involved to get swept up in something like this. The John Burgess in the article is probably retired Russell Coach Col. Burgess. Wonder how he affected the decision?

I would think that whoever wrote that article might make an effort to contact the principal of the school to see if, indeed a weather concern was behind this. Instead, he just repeated speculation from other parents. Not much of a reporting job.

I dont know anything about Russell, but to have a coach say the weather issue "really doesnt matter" and what is important is "moving on to state" is arrogant and disrespectful to all the other schools who followed the rules.

Well I would say in the future if any school has any problems traveling with inclement weather they should be allowed to reschedule any event also.

The principle might spread the lie to defend his school and his kids, wouldn't be the first time, and won't be the last.

Word on the street is the article is legit and there was a packed board meeting tonight.
