Scott's game Friday night vs SK didn't end until after 11pm. They had to come back to play CC at 4pm the very next day. They were also missing two of their top six in Hagfors & Jones.

 

Cov Cath played (Dixie) on Friday night as well. As for missing players...where to start?? The starting point guard - Shover has been out for most of the season with a chronic illness. The backup point guard - Pauley has missed most of the year will an illness followed by a chipped bone in his ankle. The backup for the backup at point guard - Klein has been out for the entire season. Sophomore phenom Thelen - out for the year with elbow surgery. Add that to losing Grimes, Bondick, Rolle, Schmerge and Noll off the 07-08 squad and you get 6-18 and happy to only lose to Scott by 12.

Wouldn't it be something if the Colonels after having such a dismal season with so many unfortunate setbacks could, with a string of good luck and good effort, pull it together just in the knick of time to have a serious run through the post season? Sure, it would be a tall order for them to win the region, but to make it to the 9th Region Tournament and possibly even advance some there is not completely out of the question. I'm sure most realize that they do have talented players and a great coach, and that they're really not as awful as their 6-18 record would suggest. They're running out of time, but if they can finally gel and get some fire and desire in em', just maybe their season won't end as soon as everybody thinks and they can end it on a high note leading them into next year. You'd think that a lot of underclassmen are getting a lot of experience this year that they didn't expect to that could possibly lead to better things for the Colonel's future. Let's sure hope so. Just how much more bad luck can they endure or withstand? :idunno:

 

I think too that if the 'Colonel Crazies' could give these guys a little more support and not just be fair weather fans, it sure could help their confidence and help them know that their buddies have their back even in hard times. Sometimes that '6th man' can really make a big difference in helping a team rise to the occasion. With CovCath's rich tradition, who can deny that their fanbase in the past has been one ultimate force that has often given the Colonels a big lift in tight games? For the sake of preserving such a great tradition and helping their team give it one last big effort before season's end, it's time for the 'Crazies' to 'Rally 'round and fill the valley with the mighty sound, there's a job to be done by the blue and white and success can be won if we fight fight fight, with a spirit that will not die and the pledge of our loyalty we will fight for Covington Catholic High and go onward to victory...RAH RAH RAH!!!

It would not surprise me at all to see CovCath upset Beechwood in the districts. Beechwood seems to have hit a slight mis-step here lately and CCH plays most teams tough. It was a tight game the first time those two played and I would say CCH is a little better now and Beechwood is not playing as well as they were then.

If I have the stats right, CCH shot 16/58 and had 23 TOs.

 

Take out Isler going 5/5 and the rest of the team shot 11/53. Yikes.

 

Hard to believe it was only a 12 pt margin.

Wellbrock had 6 pts, Isler with 12, could have been more for both. This stat makes me think you gotta throw it into your big boys from now on. That is atrocious shooting!

Covcath needs to make it their basketball if they want to end their season at BOK Center and not Holy Cross....With Shover out, Covcath just doesn't have good enough outside shooting to play out on the perimeter the way they do. They need to realize their strengths are down low with the big men and penetration from the guards which creates high percentage shots around the rim.

I think that has been shown and proven. Work it into your big men, drive to the basket, continue to play defense. They will NOT beat Beechwood on Monday if they do not use their inside game.
