Which is one of the biggest reasons why Covcath has struggled the way they have...whether a few of the CCH faithful want to admit it or not......

Eta,

It is not a matter of whether or not we want to admit it- it is a matter of whether it is true or not. Things would have been much worse. Even the blowout win over Montgomery at Scott County this year could have been a loss IMO without Luke. I feel that a lot of the players (especially Ives, Isler, and Wellbrock) have improved since the begginning of this year, but I feel that without Maile taking the pressure of them earlier, they never would have. So now that they have come along a bit, since they were not the same players earlier this year, you can't say that this team would have been better off without Luke.

So are you trying to say that if Maile doesn't play, CovCath is better?

I didn't name any players and neither did the original poster that I responded to, so obviously you guys see the same thing with Maile as myself or you wouldn't have mentioned his name. How many times this year has someone else been hot and doing well, only to have Luke come down and throw up an off balanced shot or turn the ball over which kills the Covcath momentum? I've seen several players get very upset with him this year. Actually, during the Holmes game, after a Maile turnover Wellbrock turned around and screamed at Maile right in front of myself and several Beechwood coaches that I was sitting with.

I'm not saying Covcath would be better without him because he's the only real scoring threat, but I'm not too sure they wouldn't work better as a TEAM without him.

To be honest, you could be talking about TJ, who is a good friend of mine. You have to take the bad with good, and it is more than worth it for players of their caliber. Back in 2007 when TJ was out with a groin injury we took #1 in the state down to the wire. With him, we didn't play well enough as a team to beat them, but without him there was not enough talent. Same holds true for Luke. Without Luke, this team would be in big, big trouble.

No doubt Luke is a very talented kid. I'd never say that he isn't. I just think Covcath would work better as a TEAM without him. At times he'll help you stay close, but other times he'll take you out of a game real quick. Imo Covcath needs to start playing to their strengths, which isn't Ives and Luke jacking up 3's. Both need to start being more aggressive and taking it to the rim. I've always been most impressed with both players when they try to take it to the rim and get high percentage shots, especially Ives. His ball handling is very underrated.

:thumb: I'll agree with that. But going to rim isn't "CovCath basketball". It's all about man-to-man defense, and everyone standing around watching one player on offense. Hasn't changed in a while :ohbrother:

Your question was right after the below post:

Question for you CCH fans... How do you think this season would have played out had Malie did not decide to come back and play? .

I assumed (maybe wrongly), you were continuing the question about Maile and that is why I even answered your question with a (?). I have to agree with cch5432, it is what it is, but if you take out Maile, what do you have left.

It has been a strange last two years for CovCath with injuries (Bondick and Thilen), life threathing illness (Dinkel and Kline), sickness (Shover and Pauly) and even death to loved ones (Sorrell). These seniors have seen a lot over the course of the last two years.....

How can a Highlands football and Holmes basketball fan not be a huge CovCath fan?

:D Just messing around, Eta....

See what I had bolded in my original reply. I never once was stating names, just replying to what I had bolded. IMO there's more than one player on that team who does that which is why I didn't originally mention anyone until yourself and CCH5432 did.. :thumb:

Nice.

The single biggest issue with Cov Cath is the lack of a PG. No ding on any of the boys who have played the position this year, they just weren't ready. Strong PG play would have forced a more team oriented approach. In lieu of this, one or two players are trying to do it all at the expense of the team. Coach L needs to address this or the boys in blue will be watching the district final from the bleachers.

Actually in the pregame show on the CovCath Internet Radio Network games against (I think Scott) Coach L spoke about how much this team misses having a true PG and (IMO) a senior PG even more so. First Shover, then Pauley then having to go to a sophomore, sure doesn't help the flow of the ball movement....

Coach L. spoke of the point guard situation in the internet pregame interview before Scott this past Saturday. He moved Stephen Wilson to the PG position for the game. Considering how well Scott has been playing and Cov Cath's performance against St. Henry and Dixie, I was expecting a more lopsided victory for the Eagles. The Colonels have quarters where they look like they can play with anyone (save Holmes) in the 9th Region. The also have quarters where they look like they may never win again. It has been an odd year.

So your saying it'd be better to be a "better team" in the playing together sense than to win games and actually be a better team.

Scott's game Friday night vs SK didn't end until after 11pm. They had to come back to play CC at 4pm the very next day. They were also missing two of their top six in Hagfors & Jones. Excuses are like...you know the rest.
