Highlands 7th over CC Purple tonight 33-14. This game was painful to watch. Neither team played very well. Turnovers, fouls, and plenty of missed shots. If not for HMS getting quite a few easy baskets off of the press late 1st qtr and early 2nd the score would have been lower. All 15 HMS players got minutes tonight.

 

BTW, How does CC divide up the boys? Do they have an "a" and "b" team? Are they split evenly or randomly? We played Gold early in the season and I remember the score to be similar to tonights game.

HMS 7th has won 8 in a row, 10 of their last 11. Last 3 games against teams they have handled recently. Look for the Birds to enter the end of season tourney on an 11 game win streak.

At the 6th and 7th grade level CC splits up it's talent "evenly". Also, CC Purple was missing their starting PG, (Geiman - Wolfpack, out sick with flu). #21 for CC Purple (Schweitzer - Wolfpack) had to carry the load.

 

I was surprised by the amount of misses HMS had from 3. I thought they would have been raining down.

 

In the 8th grade game, CC Purple started 4 reserves as discipline for lack of effort in a previous game. HMS was missing a starter and a few reserves. Christian would have helped tonight on the boards for HMS. Barth had 20. CC Purple made the game very physical, but HMS' players AAU experience really proved to be the difference in now bowing to the tough defensive pressure.

Summit View rolled over Turkeyfoot by 22. Sampson led the way in scoring, but the other starters seem to do what they wanted also. Gambrell came off the bench to grab several rebounds, but the overall rebounding effort needs to improve dramatically or the Jags could drop a couple of games before the regular season is over!

Twenhofel looked really good last night. There was definitely a difference with the whole team back this time playing Woodland. Barnes and Monson did a great job keeping Jehn and Felts from shooting. Big guys did a pretty good job fkeeping Engleman from shooting to much. The Bench came in and did a good job as well. Great win Breds.

In 6th grade, Ockerman plays Grant County on Thursday night in the championship of that conference. Ockerman beat Conner by around 30 and Grant County beat Gray to advance to the finals. Ockerman hasn't been even touched by a team so far this year in that conference.

Twenhofel plays Turkeyfoot tonight. I believe it's at Turkeyfoot.

Thanks gryche11, the 8th grade has been playing harder than in the beginning of the season. They had just three players on the bench to use for the game in reserve. Stull had to sit out the game because of the tech foul against HMS the other night. Stull could have helped put the game against St. Pius out of reach but when you mess up you have to pay the price. Garland got into foul trouble early and Sharp came into the game and produce some three's. I believe Sharp will see more action now. Baldwin had a good night of rebounding and blocking some shots too. Guilkey had a descent night and Pearson provided a lot of good shots. IMO they are at least one or two players away from having a solid starting five and a good bench to give the starting five a break. Next game is Thursday I believe against CC purple.

I remember reading several posts this year about Geimen being a top player for CC Purple 7th. I didn't notice any players that stood out. The above quote explains the reason why.

Ockerman's got a great 6th grade team. Guards are just good enough to break the press and they have Stanley and KJ in the middle.

Tell me about Twenhofel and Grant County 8th grade boys. Clinton County will play one or the other their 2nd game. I am assuming that Twenhofel is the better of the 2 so if Clinton beats Pineville they will play Grant County.

I got there right at the start of the 8th grade game and I heard the 7th grade Highlands coach was livid with the referees after the game. I heard words were exchanged such as "got homered", etc.

 

In the 8th grade game Highlands jumped out ahead 19-0 in the first 4 minutes and ended up almost losing the game.

 

Final 36 to 34. One of the referees moved maybe 10 feet the entire game. He hung out at halfcourt and moved 5 feet in on one side and 5 feet on the other. The other referee ran the floor the entire night.

 

Birds 8th grade team improve to 12-5 in conference and 17-10 overall. They play Beechwood on Mon night and CC Purple later in the week to wrap up the regular season.
