February 13, 200917 yr In the 6th grade championship Ockerman beat Grant County 39 to 22. Ockerman went 14-0. Ockerman's 6th grade team did play in the BCI last weekend and went 3 and 1 against AAU competition. Ockerman split with an AAU team from the New Albany, IN area. I have no idea on the 7th or 8th grade finals in Boone County. Brendan Stanley has to one of...if not the best 6th grader in the state!!! He really influences the game in many ways...blocks, finishes and transition.

I was telling my dad last night that having Stanley on your team is at least the equivalent of a high school team having a big time D1 player on their team. Stanley is by far the best player I have seen. It was a great year for Ockerman and to put another feather in Stanley's cap he is the ultimate team basketball player.
February 13, 200917 yr I've seen 25 differnet 7th grade teams this year, and haven't seen a player as skilled as the 6th grader Stanley. Hope that HMS 7th schedules Ockerman next year so we can compete against him.

Hope that HMS 7th schedules Ockerman next year so we can compete against him. Last year as a 5th grader, Stanley played in two tournament games with the 6th grade (now 7th grade) Wolfpack - Geiman. The first game was against the Louisville Legends who finished 2nd in U12 D1 state last year. Stanley scored 15 points in a 6 point loss by the Wolfpack. They then played another team out of Louisville - the Gators. They finished in 7th place last year in D2 Nationals, I believe. The Wolfpack defeated the Gators by 11 points and Stanley had 18. He was at times the best player on the floor in both games. Unbelievably fun to watch and even more fun to coach:thumb:
February 13, 200917 yr Any word on who won the Boone County Tournament? The 8th grade regular season champion was Tichenor and Jones Middle was the runner-up. In the tournament things were shaken up a bit. Camp Ernst (who had some injuries during the regular season) were the tournament champions and Tichenor was the runner-up. I wasn't there and do not have any details on the game. Gray who won only three conference games in the regular season finished third in the tournament with a win over Conner in the consolation game.
February 13, 200917 yr HMS 7th lost at St Pius tonight 35-34. This was a rematch of a game played at Highlands 3 weeks ago that the Birds won by almost 40. A game where HMS played reserves for the a large portion of the game. I wasn't able to make the game tonight---wondering what happened that the result could be so much different. Was St Pius missing players in the first meeting? I know home court advantage counts for something, but not this big of a difference. I got there right at the start of the 8th grade game and I heard the 7th grade Highlands coach was livid with the referees after the game. I heard words were exchanged such as "got homered", etc. Still hoping that someone who was at the HMS - St Pius can give some insight into the 40 point swing from game 1 to game 2. I heard that the visitors were very displeased with the officials. I also was told that the one official stood at half court while the other ran baseline to baseline. The "hard working official" has had a few of HMS away games and has T'd up the HMS coach every time. Hopefully these two teams can meet in the end of season tourney on a neutral court. T's are down this year for the 7th grade coach I am sure of that. I know last year he had many. This year's HMS 8th grade coach it would be a miracle if he got a technical foul. LOL He's the most mild mannered coach I have ever seen but with that said I did notice even he walked a few steps out on the court after a PATHETIC call where the ref gave the ball to St. Pius when it should have gone to HMS. It was just a bad night of officating and the ref that was really bad just looked like he really didnt want to be there. HMS 7th grade are 20 pts better than St. Pius and if they play 10 times HMS would win 9 of them. Last night was just one game so I wouldnt make too big of a deal about it. Im sure the HMS 7th graders are still the Number 1 seed going into the tourney. One other thing to keep in mind, Nick True who is 6'4 is playing up with the Frosh and also part of this 7th grade class. If they keep developing this could be a really nice group. The last time these two teams played, Highlands won 50-29. Not a 40 point loss. My little brother had 10 points and 11 rebounds last night apparently! :ylsuper: My father was at both games, and he told me that last night he had to escort Highlands's coach to the door as he went after the ref. 7th grade basketball is crazy! :jump:
February 14, 200917 yr Does the 6th grade usually play at 5:15??? Currently in NKMSBL, game times are 6th grade 5:00; 7th grade 6:15 and 8th grade 7:30. You need more than 1 hour between games to have sufficient warm up times. The NKMSBL requires a minimum warm up time of 8 minutes and an 8 minute half time.

My little brother had 10 points and 11 rebounds last night apparently! :ylsuper: My father was at both games, and he told me that last night he had to escort Highlands's coach to the door as he went after the ref. 7th grade basketball is crazy! :jump: He didn't go after the referee. He made disparaging comments to him on his way out of the locker room and to the exit. It was inappropriate and probably was better that he was escorted to the door just to avoid embarrassment and further confrontation. From what I saw in the 8th grade game from the same referees they certainly didnt deserve a handshake after the game.
