Count me in among the bunch that was ready to vote the Lady Vikings into the top 10...my assessment, unfortunately, was from afar, as I haven't had the privilege of seeing Rowan this year, but could only review their games in the paper and in forums such as this...still...they looked pretty good to me, particularly after the wins over Manual, Boone, and Notre Dame, and with that big goose-egg in the loss column.

Looks like I was fooled as well as many others...Rowan is undoubtedly one of the better teams in the state, and probably worthy of being in the top 20, but a team with aspirations of being in the top ten doesn't lose by 37 to another top 10 team... Still, one heck of a season for RC, and they have some more games to redeem themselves in! None of these games matter come tournament time...

For LCA, a VERY IMPRESSIVE OUTING... congrats!

C'mon guys, lighten up!!! Manuel lost by 23 to Montgomery tonight, does that mean they're not a top ten team either???? If those stats are correct about the 15-22 on 3's they beat ANYBODY in the state by 25-30, not just Rowan Co., a really good team on a very hot night and you guys are pounding Rowan Co. and the 16th region into the ground??? Back off!!!

Easy, KC! You picked a poor choice of posts to quote. If you'll re-read my post, I hardly "pounded" Rowan County. I was actually eating a healthy dose of crow...if you follow this forum, you know I was one of a few folks who was actively "campaigning" for RC as a top ten team every week when the polls came out. I was merely stating that I previously thought they were a top 10 team - now I do not. I'm not generally in a habit of "pounding" a team from an area where I have family roots. I was rooting hard for the Lady Vikings in this game, and will be following them closely throughout the rest of the year.

But - speaking totally objectively, and not from the heart - I stand by my statement that top 10 teams don't typically beat top 10 teams by 27.

Manual's whipping at the hands of Montgomery County likely further erodes support for Rowan as a top 10 team in the pollsters' eyes.

Typically they don't!!! But anything can happen! Rowan has some good wins and it doesn't matter what time of year it was!! 15-22 is unbelievable from three and I would wager it doesn't happen again this season for LCA

A good team is not going to allow you to hit 15 of 22 three's.

Was anyone playing defense? Anyone?

Don't count Rowan County out in the state tournament. They should win their region and could very well make a run in Bowling Green.

I think at least three of them were 3 or more feet beyond the arc! They also hit a few in transition, not exactly where you expect someone to pull up & shoot. It was just an unbelievable shooting performance. I know Martin hit one about from at least 25 ft! Hats off to LCA as this was the best girls performance I may have ever witnessed. A really good team & a lot of fun to watch.

Rowan Co. didn't match up with the Big 3 and couldn't turn LCA over thus the big margin. Rowan Co. has to create turnovers and get in transition to manufacture points a lot of times and in half court they had to rely on the perimiter shot because they couldn't get anything inside because of the bigger more physical LCA. Yea, LCA shot the ball well but Rowan did know how to defend, they went to a zone at one point it was like target practice for Martin and Clifton, it was like they took it as an insult!:ohbrother:

I think the team that comes out of the 9th, which I believe will be Highlands certainly now has to think they'll have a great chance against Rowan County if the two meet in the state tournament.

I dont foresee any run by Rowan in Bowling Green if they in fact get there. 16th Region will not prepare them for a run.

Once a team shows that they are shooting very well you had better guard them wherever they are. This is not the first time Christian has shot like this. You have to guard the shooters, no matter if they are behind the arc some.

I agree...the Lady Vikings are a force to be reckoned with...but they'll have to show a lot in the next two weeks to reach the top 10 after this kind of loss...top 10 teams don't typically lose by 34 points to anyone...

Which all brings up one big point...you don't win the Sweet 16 in the polls. Fun for us to debate...but no team has ever been awarded the big trophy thanks to their coronation in the polls. Which makes all this hubbub over whether they should be ranked in the top 10 totally irrelevant.

For the Lady Vikings' sake, I hope they're not paying attention to the polls...it's NEVER good for a team to be concerned with them.

What about #3 teams getting bat by 27 points? Manual dusted by Montgomery by 27!

The quick reaction to an unbeaten team that gets beat this badly is to think they were overrated (I think "fraud" is too strong a word and should be reserved for some banking and wall street types). But with the quality wins that Rowan has to their credit, I gotta believe other factors weighed heavily - whether bad night for them, great night for LCA, matchup problems, etc.

They obviously have the ability to knock off quality teams - and hadn't lost a game until this one, so we know they know how to win. Personally, I think I would rather see the 9th region get someone else in the state tournament that hadn't beaten Manual.

Rowan at East Carter tomorrow night. Could be a good one.
