The good:

The ingredients are there. Raceland has the makings for a good OL/DL, the players are there. Raceland has dept at every other position. Three good QB's, four or five good RB's, four or five good WR's. Three or four good LB's, and dept at DB. The ability and numbers are there.

 

The bad:

None of the players are in mid season form, or pre-season form for that matter. I fear that it may take several weeks of the season for some players to learn what has to be done. We lack the experience of last year, and some of these players are going to have to play with experience for this team to be successful, they need to find that in practice not in the season. Proper preparation prevents poor performance.

 

The ugly:

Arm tackling, poor blocking execution, lack of intensity, lack of emotion. All these things need to be present in the upcoming scrimmage for me to have a better outlook. I reserve more opinion until then.

I really like how they're useing Barr at the Bandit/monster position. I thought Troxler was a DB then saw him in warmups, has add alot size, I'm glad they moved him to linebacker. Overall as a team looks like another big year for the RAMS. I would say at least a 8win regular season...

Very good post Ram! The defense is my main concern. Putting points on the board will not be a problem. But arm tackling, lack of intensity, and not having 6 and 7 guys flying to the football will not cut it! The ability is there no doubt about it.

I'm anxious to see next weeks scrimmage. I do realize it's hard to get up and show emotion in an intersquad scrimmage. But next week there is no excuses!

An 8 win regular season would mean Raceland wins all of the games they are "supposed" to win. That would mean only losses to Ashland and Lexington Christian. That would be a great accomplishment if Raceland could do that.

Raceland has a solid program and school, but guys how in the world can they be any better than last season. I mean come on they lost a ton of players. I know they replaced them with their own kids and transfers from other schools, but geez. As far as them winning 8 they may do that, but I'm sure Boyd County, Russell, Fairview, etc. will have something to say about that. All three of those teams are solid, and can have great years also. Good luck to all the local teams and hope all teams stay injury free.

Fairview should win 7 or 8 with the schedule they play. Russell will be Russell - solid. Boyd I am not sure about. The Rams will have a hard time winning 8, but will have a chance.

Raceland hasn't won a single game yet, and it is still to be proven that they will. Raceland does not have an easy schedule, and I don't see many bunny games on it. I bet every team on the schedule comes out really wanting revenge from last season, spare Fleming County and Boyd County because Raceland didn't play either last year. But, I guarantee that neither of them want to lose to Raceland this year.

 

Boyd County - big school that won their 4A district last season.

Ashland - big school that is plenty mad about the last three seasons.

Fleming County - a team that normally has good players that will play hard.

Greenup County - 4A school that doesn't like loosing to in county rival.

East Carter - a new 4A school that has made the series interesting in recent years.

Nicholas County - district game.

Paris - district game.

Fairview - district game, that should have a solid team, that doesn't care for Raceland to much.

LCA - need not say anything.

Russell - need not say anything.

Nobody is gonna lay down to you because of last year. I can assure you that. I've been there done that in the 02 season then the following 03 season. It's a whole new year and it's a long road to go.

I will agree with Doc on tackling. Defense needs work! Open field tackling was more like one arm tackling. But I'm sure Hoof and Maynard got some good looks at what needs to be done. So next week the boys will be put to work.

On another note Farley has improved 100% from last year. I had to ask who it was because I couldn't believe it was him running around and stepping up and throwing like that. He has developed alot more agility and speed from his game last year.

And not sure who Runningback #5 was without real jerseys. But he was also very impressive with his spin moves and breaking tackle abilitys.

Cody Grant's Defensive game was played well too. He had several tackles and knocked down a pass or two as well. And he seems to be a strong leader on the fiel with great intensity.

Rams definately have some work to put in this coming week. Lets see if they go to work to get better!

 

Farley still panics when pressured. He did have a nice run around the left end I do not know if it was called or a broken play. I did not see him throw the deep pass 25+yards it was almost always the swing pass and when he did go long he was locked on one wr. He has to learn to look at the entire field. Did not understand why Barr did not run the ball more. Litteral ran the ball very well, seems like he is faster and stronger this year. Jett Troxler is going to help out a great deal on both sides of the ball he is alot bigger and quicker than I thought he would be. Mckee should be back this coming week and he will help out at wideout. Huffman had a good game on both sides of the ball. Marcus Reed well be a hand full just needs to get stronger and some more playing time.

Thanks for the summary Ram (and sidelinedoc) and for telling it like it is on the tackling, intensity, etc, That junk is not Raceland football......I hate to see arm tackles !!!!:taz::taz::madman:. I hate to see no intensity, poor hustle, no emotion!!!! :taz::taz::madman:.

Maybe we could come up with a "knitting" or "chess" team/club instead. :ohbrother:

:thumb:Absolutely correct RF04, I stated in another post that (last season) will only put a bigger target on this teams back. Should this team not come out and play hard they will be embarrassed.....and much more than once.

I know this statement may really be out there but from watching many meet the rams alot of times the coaches dont give away everything which may have contributed to the lack of tackling also could there be a chance that to avoid injury with our own players before we get ready to go might have been another reason. I agree with sideline doc though "HIT SOMEBODY"!!!!!

Remember, HCT, we play Boyd County in less than 2 weeks and it is a real game......not scrimmage. We better be ready on August 22nd.

I promise you that Barr will have a lot more touches as the regular season approaches. This was practice and the coaches have to look at everybody at this point. Saturday will be a better look. We play 3 live quarters against West Carter will all the supposed starters playing together and not split into 2 teams. Also, we should hopefully have some injured players back in practice plus Jamal will be ready to put pads on by Saturday. We'll get a glimpse of what he may bring to the table. At 6'1" and 270, it should be a full plate.
