Jonathan Ferguson joins 3000 point club

If I remember correctly there was a kid who played at Mason County that at this same time in his senior season seemed shunned by the UKs and ULs of the world who ended up having a pretty good career at Tennessee. I also remember folks saying he was too short to play D-1 ball. Ferg may be a half inch shorter than him which for all intents in purpose puts them in the same situation. I saw Lofton play 25+ times in HS and Ferg is much the same type player with the same shooting range. I think the parallels between the two are striking. Another Mason County grad named Ronny Lyons was only 5'10" and had a pretty good career at UK. IMO his unlimited range, jumping ability, and quick release negate the height issues and concerns. Much like Lofton though the big schools seem to think the height is an issue. But much like Lofton the one school that gets over this hurdle will find Ferg and he will land in the right place just like Mr. Lofton did. Again, I think the parallels between the two are striking.

Funny you said that I have always thought the same thing. He also reminds me of a guy by the name of Ritchie Farmer that had a pretty good college career at UK.

This is the first time I remember ever seeing a thread turn into questioning a school's report of scoring numbers for a player. It probably wouldn't have happened if Ferguson played anywhere but Elliott County. Rest assured the point totals have been checked and are correct. I am sure Dale will be more than happy to put some of your minds at ease when he gets back on here. Amazing!

Alright, I still couldn't get my arms around the numbers, but this is the information available in these threads and through the KHSAA:

For 2008-09: 470 points (26.1 ppg for 18 games)

For 2007-08: 742 points (723 for regular season + 19 in Sweet Sixteen)

For 2006-07: 727 points (674 regular season + 28 + 25 in Sweet Sixteen)

For 2005-06: 540 points * (He is referenced as averaging 18 points a game, and I extrapolated that for 30 games since they didn't get to the Sweet Sixteen)

For 2004-05: ??? But for the numbers to work, it has to be 521 points. Assuming 30 games that would be about 18 ppg. Does that sound right for his eighth grade season?

The other thing that doesn't exactly seem to fit is that he got his 2,000th point on 1-17-08; which would mean he had to score 1,000 points between 1-17-08 and 1-27-09. Assuming EC played 15 games (and I couldn't confirm that - I assume someone with last year's schedule could verify or dispute that assumption) after 01-17-08 on their way to a final season record of 26-4, and they've played 18 games this year, that would mean he had to average 30 ppg for those 33 games, and that is inconsistent with the stats I have seen.

Can anybody tell me where my numbers are incorrect?

According to the stats report on the KHSAA Scoreboard, Ferguson scored 582 points in the 2005-06 season. Assuming that to be correct, he would have had to average just under 16 points a game as an 8th-grader for the total to work out.

UT must thank the same thing becuse I know for fact that they have been in Contact.

By going to the KHSAA web site since 1-17-08 Elliott has played 31 games and that would be an average of 32.25 points per game. the way Ferg scores

he could do that but based on this date of 1-17-08 thats how many games they have played.

Not sure about Tennessee but I know Mississippi State has been in contact...he took an official visit there. No offers were made and they made no promises but said they'd be keeping an eye on him.

I think it is funny that someone put on here that Ferg is a 6'1" forward. Maybe a 6'1.5" wing player would be more correct or just plain and simple a

6'1.5" basketball player. It has been interesting to listen to all the pre-game line-up announcements for Elliott this year. Most common by the PA announcers is to say C.Knipp, Ferg, Falk twins as guards and T. Knipp as a forward. But, I remember one PA man announcing all of the starting five as guards. Really have heard all kinds of combinations by the various PA announcers. If that is the case then can a team with five guards or four guards and a forward advance deep in March?? We are about to find out before too long!!!

Henry Steele!.......H'mm....I don't know what your motive or intent is or why you would try and defame my son!!! I talked to the Coach last night about YOUR PROBLEM!

he advised me not even to reply to you because he knew the numbers are right, but I felt I needed to!!!! You have researched and dug around tried to pick Jonathan apart with this question: How could he score 2000 last year and(you said 30 but it was more than that) in 30 more games score 1000 to reach the 3000 mark!! The answer Coach gave me was quite simple: He said the student assistant who figured up Jonathan's points didn't add the eighth grade in and when they became aware of it he was already well past the 2000 mark!!!!! So they waited till the next home game and honored him as they try to do all their milestones at home!!!!!!!!!!

I will rest assured then, knowing that he scored 530 points in the last 12 games of 2007-08, an average of 44 points per game, since you told me the point totals have been checked and are correct. I guess I missed all those 40+ point games.

And just for the record, from what I have seen I think he is a talented kid and I like the way he, and the rest of EC, plays. I also think he has had a tremendous career and put up great numbers. I just hope those numbers haven't been inflated - I would hope we could agree that that happens from time to time at the high school level - because then the legitimacy of ALL of his numbers is called into question and it casts a cloud over an otherwise tremendous high school career.

You are the only one that has said anything about it.:sssh:

What are you talking about????? When they honored him with the 2000 he actually had several more than that because of an addition mistake..Did you not read my post?????

Common sense would tell you that if he scored 530 in those 12 and 470 this year + the 8th grade that had not been added in he would be way over 3000!!!!!!!!!!

I think that we'll stop here, again congratulations to a fine player on a terrific accomplishment.:thumb:
