Jonathan Ferguson joins 3000 point club

Featured Replies

The times that I have seen him play that is exactly what he does.:thumb:

Agreed. I believe that there would be a devout group from the Hook to frequent MSU games IF he were there.

Heck, I am pretty sure that there will be a caravan or two heading to NKY and Virginia next season.

It would be swell if my alma mater picked up Ferguson.

I would get season tickets if Ferg landed at MSU.

Congratulations to one of my favorite high school players of all time. :thumb:

All the more remarkable considering how he has to drag his shy, quiet, little old daddy around everywhere, and a a pretty strong endorsement of a diet of wild game, fowl and fish.

Truth be told, there have been a couple of games over the years it seemed like he had a thousand at halftime.

Way to go kiddo! I look forward to watching you play at the next level.

Tell that OLD pappy of yours Happy Birthday for me... I'm kind of amazed he's been around this long... but I do hope he can hang in there for many more.

Congrats to Ferg on the accomplishment. The 4 or 5 times I've seen EC over the past two years, I've always been most impressed with him. The kid's range in unlimited.

As far as MSU not recruiting him, I'm very surprised at that as well considering how close he is to campus and the crowds that he'd draw, on top of being a great athlete.

I know MSU is currently showing interest in Riley of Holmes and are recruiting him.

congratulation Jonathan!!!!!!!! It is well deserved!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on joining an elite club. The numbers for some of those on the list are ridiculous - Ervin Stepp averaged over 50 a game for his junior and senior seasons to get onto the list - you can do the math, but that would have been 1,500 points per season if they played 30 games. I have looked for King Kelly Coleman's complete stats before, but couldn't find them. I think I read once, though, that he came to the Sweet Sixteen once averaging over 50 a game.

Just out of curiousity, anybody got the 5 year stats on Ferg - average and total points?

I'll ask again - anybody got the 8th grade, freshman, sophomore and junior numbers?

Thats like 1,000 three pointers. Yes Im very good at mathematics.

His Coaches did the figuring from the books they keep or computer however they do it! If you really need it I could possibly get a breakdown on it! I know he avgd well over 20 for most of those years and played over 30 games each season!!!!!!!!!!

Heck I would get season tickets also. It would cut my drive from 127 miles (Sandy Hook) to 95 miles (Morehead) one way which would be a piece of cake.

I have to quit being so hard on myself in regards to Ferg's shooting. He can hit 8 of 12 three pointers and somehow I think he should have been 11-12 which is unrealistic. But he has such a beautiful release and form that they all look good when they leave his hand. And Ferg showed with his rebounding against Rose Hill that he can really jump. That jumping ability and quick release makes that long range jumper very effective.

One other note: Haven't seen Morehead play, but if they have somebody that can out shoot Ferg let me know and I will stop by and see a game on my way to Sandy Hook..........

Save the trip...they don't.

Congrats to Mr. Ferguson. That is a tremendous accomplishment and hard to believe. I would have personally thought that he was too good of a basketball player to land at Morehead. I would think that some larger programs could use a shooter with his abilities. I mean, look at what Sloan's done at UK this year. Earned some playing time as a walk-on true freshman. A player that can flat fill it up like Ferg is always in high demand. Congrats again to him, his proud family and the Elliott fans who have witnessed all those buckets.

I don't know if Tydall and MSU has contacted Ferg or not but if they havn't and they came calling now, If I were him I would tell them to take a flying leap.

I wouldn't. If I was Ferg , I'd sign in a minute. A 6'1" forward playing D1 ball. That would be pretty impressive.

Alright, I still couldn't get my arms around the numbers, but this is the information available in these threads and through the KHSAA:

For 2008-09: 470 points (26.1 ppg for 18 games)

For 2007-08: 742 points (723 for regular season + 19 in Sweet Sixteen)

For 2006-07: 727 points (674 regular season + 28 + 25 in Sweet Sixteen)

For 2005-06: 540 points * (He is referenced as averaging 18 points a game, and I extrapolated that for 30 games since they didn't get to the Sweet Sixteen)

For 2004-05: ??? But for the numbers to work, it has to be 521 points. Assuming 30 games that would be about 18 ppg. Does that sound right for his eighth grade season?

The other thing that doesn't exactly seem to fit is that he got his 2,000th point on 1-17-08; which would mean he had to score 1,000 points between 1-17-08 and 1-27-09. Assuming EC played 15 games (and I couldn't confirm that - I assume someone with last year's schedule could verify or dispute that assumption) after 01-17-08 on their way to a final season record of 26-4, and they've played 18 games this year, that would mean he had to average 30 ppg for those 33 games, and that is inconsistent with the stats I have seen.

Can anybody tell me where my numbers are incorrect?
