This was a nice win for Holmes. This has officially wrapped up the #1 seed in the district. I thought Cov Cath played undisciplined in the second half. It wasn't a typical team coached by Listerman. I was also surprised to see alot of empty seats in Park Hills. I got there at 6:45 and thought I might not even get in. It was disappointing.

 

I didn't get there until they were announcing the lineups, and still got in with no problem and had plenty of room to find a seat.

 

In years past, if you didn't get there at 6 for the JV game to wait in line, you didn't get in.

 

I agree, very disappointing.

When Pittman drove the lane in the first and went up for the throw down on Maile, I knew it was over. Had he made that, I saw the roof coming off the place.

Honestly, youre probably right about the trapping issue, however Reidinger seems to do fine with that in JV. Not sure how he would on varsity though.

 

Maschinot will be fine, no one is saying otherwise, but if he wants to be successful in the next 2 years he HAS to cut out the one handed push pass. It's not more often than not that he gets the ball to the open man unless youre talking about the man outside the arc. His ball just doesn't have enough on it, and it's easy to pick off due to the very obvious push pass method he uses. 98% of the time right now Maschinot goes to his right only and does a push pass. If he can work on his left and cut out those passes [which he is not the only one guilty of, the entire JV guard system has an issue with it] he will be a really good PG.

 

Before I say this, I want to state that I really like Brett and his game, but based on this comment you obviuosly have not watched much of the JV games this year. When teams press and trap, Brett does get in trouble. I think that is the main reason he is playing JV more now than Maschinot

 

As fas as the passes go, If what you say is true, then how can he have more assists than turnovers? Again, I believe he is still the only person on the team in that situation. They can not all be assists to outside guys, cause you and I both know how horrendous our outside shooting is

First observation about the game is that the most impressive thing about Holmes is the play of the Johnson boys. Lot's of talent and they play smart. I was surprised how shallow Holmes' bench was. Solid team, though. They deserve credit for the win.

 

A few observations about CovCath: 1) At this point in a disappointing season, good turn out and support from the Crazies; 2) Thelen was the bright spot for the team last night. Earlier this week some here said that he was too soft. He was the ONLY one changing Pittman's game by putting a body on him. He took Pittman out of his game Only knock on Thelen last night is that he runs funny (joking!); 3) It's shocking how some of the CovCath players have disappeared during big games. The box scores for B'wood and Holmes are, well shocking. For them to win, it has to be a team effort; 4) Way too much criticism of Machinott here. Can anyone argue that if everyone on the team stepped up like he has done and improved his game this would be an entirely different team? I think somepeople should begin to focus some of their constructive critiques to some other players (my opinion); 5) Didn't see much impact of Coach Bradley last night, but he was taking lots of notes (and laughing at the Crazies). He can only help; 6) Good showing by Maile. At times it looks like he tries to do too much, but all in all Good Showing; 7) It's a shame the JV undefeated streak had to come to an end; 8) Counts deserves some positive recognition in this game. He has had rough season, has been moved into a different role, and as some have implied hasn't been too happy about it. In this game he did a good job in the role that he has been given. Less drama, more solid minutes. He deserves credit for that; 9) CovCath had some strange looking line ups at times. At one point I thought I saw some players looking a bit surprised as to who was out there.

 

Agreed, the boys hung in there and never gave up. Too bad we did not get to play full strength. Maybe we can win the next 12!

You can stream games for free now online, and I would think there are people willing to broadcast the games. The only budget issue would be for a wireless internet card. I imagine you can get a wireless signal at the fieldhouse, so at least the home games could be done for free.

I have watched every JV game with the exception of like 2 games I couldn't attend. So obviously you're not right in basing that off my comment. I have not noticed him having problems with traps, any more than anyone else, so maybe it just didn't stand out.

What is your definition of ALOT? Find me any PG who doesn't have a couple every game. I don't disagree that he has turnovers. The whole team makes ALOT of turnovers. But, aside from the Highlands game (5 TO), I think you will find if you go back and look at stats, that even though he has handled the ball as much as almost everyone on the team, he is not leading the team in TO and still has more assists than TO. Your post on here make it sound like he is the only one who is making TO and is costing the team wins. The reason they are not winning is because nobody can consistently score, neither inside or outside. I can not recall watching another High School team who misses as many lay-ups and put backs as this team.

Correct, and that was a very nice put it, but what I was saying is it's not like he did it or even tried to do it the whole game. Don't get me wrong I think he is the best option they have there right now, but all I was saying is maybe they could get him some rest throughout the game with someone like Reidinger or whoever. In the Holmes game he was in almost the whole game and that's demanding as a sophomore against one of the top teams in state. I do think he has tremendous upside though.
